If you’ve been wanting to try the popular Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa at Shaw Centre but haven’t got round to it, here’s another reason to check it out: the restaurant is set to open its second Singapore outlet at Raffles City.

One of our colleagues spotted hoarding for the restaurant’s upcoming outlet at the mall’s basement, suggesting an opening announcement isn’t too far off.

For the uninitiated, Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa is a Michelin-approved Japanese chain with over 90 years of history, currently led by fourth-generation unagi master Kikukawa Yuhei. The brand made its Singapore debut at Shaw Centre in 2025, and has since built a following for its whole grilled eel, filleted and cooked over binchotan charcoal for that signature crisp, smoky skin and tender, buttery flesh.

While the full menu for the Raffles City outlet has yet to be released, we’re assuming it’ll feature the same crowd favourites that made the Shaw Centre outlet a hit, including the restaurant’s signature Kabayaki Ippon Unagi Set ($48++).

This dish comes as a whole grilled eel laid over Japanese rice, served alongside sliced nori, cabbage, ginger, and a bowl of traditional eel liver soup.

For something a little different, there’s the Ippon Hitsumabushi Set ($50++), which uses the same grilled eel, diced into bite-sized pieces. It comes with wasabi, nori and spring onions, plus dashi broth to pour over the rice midway, turning it into an ochazuke by the end.

If you prefer your eel as it is, the Shirayaki (Without Sauce) Ippon Unagi Set ($48++) is seasoned with just a touch of salt to bring out the slight crunch of the skin.

Beyond the mains, a la carte options such as the Assorted Sashimi ($39++), crispy Eel Bone Cracker ($6++), and Umaki Eel Rolled In Egg ($12++ for six) round out the menu, giving diners a few more ways to enjoy the restaurant’s eel beyond the signature dons.

We’ll update this article with more information on the Raffles City outlet, including the opening date and confirmed menu, as soon as we have them.
