What to eat in Orchard for $10 and less
Orchard may be dubbed as the area for the affluent, a place you should avoid at all costs if you are looking to dine on a budget. But we are here to prove you wrong—here is our list of the 15 best cheap eats in Orchard that will only cost you $10 or less! Whether you’re craving a piping hot bowl of Yong Tau Foo or the comfort of a home-cooked Korean meal, we’ve got you covered.
1. Korat Thai Cafe
The key to finding Orchard Road’s cheap fixes lie in the less fancy, less decorated places. One such spot is Korat Thai Cafe, a nondescript spot serving up affordable Thai cuisine. Plus, their menu is super extensive, with over 50 dishes to choose from!
Options here include Tom Yum Fried Rice ($5.50), Garlic Pepper ($7.50), Sweet and Sour ($7.50), Basil Leaf Pork ($7.50). Otherwise, dig into a comforting bowl of Tom Yum Noodle Soup ($8.50) which boasts spicy and sour flavours, or a bowl of flavourful Phad Thai ($8.50).

2. New Station Snack Bar
New Station Snack Bar is located in Far East Plaza. If you’re familiar with their sister joint, New Station Rice Bar in Bugis, you would know just how popular the OG joint is. They sell a range of zi char-style dishes, but the one that put them on the map is their salted egg rice.
This salted egg rice, which is a non-negotiable dish to order when you’re here, is easily one of the best around. We visited their sister outlet not too long ago, so we can attest to this claim. Their delicious Salted Egg Pork Rice ($8) sees crispy, deep-fried pieces of pork drenched in a thick, savoury salted egg sauce. But if that doesn’t strike your fancy, go for dishes such as the Marmite Chicken Rice ($9), Sweet and Sour Fish Rice ($8), or Black Pepper Beef Rice ($8) which are equally as popular!

Other than meat, each plate comes with rice doused in lemak curry, cabbage, a sunny-side-up, clear soup, and sambal. The grilled chicken is super raved about, known for not only being tender and juicy, but also well-marinated. Each piece is grilled to perfection over charcoal, so you know you’re getting that ultra-smoky flavour!

4. Song Fa Bak Kut Teh
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh needs little to no introduction, with it being arguably Singapore’s most established BKT chain. Not to mention, the stall has also had a consistent spot on the Michelin Bib Gourmand for over seven years!
Though the prices of the BKT here is a leg-up compared to what you would find at more humble hawker stalls, most dishes on the menu here will still set you back less than $10. Must-order items here are the Pork Ribs Soup ($8.80++) and the Premium Loin Rib Soup ($9.80++).
The broth boasts a rich, distinctive flavour of pork bones, thanks to the long hours of simmering. It also isn’t overly peppery, which is great as it wouldn’t induce a coughing fit upon first sip. To better soak up more of that fragrant broth, order some Dough Fritters ($2.30++) AKA you tiao to dip on the side.

5. Fiie’s Cafe

Arguably one of the most well-known food joints in Lucky Plaza is Fiie’s Cafe, or you might better know the stall as the famous Mister Grumpy’s fried chicken. The nickname stems from the formidable expression the owner of the stall wears when serving customers. Though that hasn’t stopped the stall from racking up long queues of customers on the daily.

They only have one thing on the menu, their Signature Nasi Ayam ($6.50), a simple dish of fried chicken, rice, and sambal. The star of the dish is the juicy ayam goreng AKA fried chicken, which is given a good rub in a variety of spices before it is deep-fried, lending the meat a delicious flavour.
Address: 304 Orchard Road, #06-22, Lucky Plaza, Singapore 238863

The signature soybean soup is praised for its flavourful, yet clean and light taste.

Other than your typical kaya toast, SuuKee Coffee also whips up a lesser-seen toast filled with orh nee or sweet taro paste. There are four versions of this: the OG Orh Nee ($3.60), the Orh Nee Butter ($3.90), the Orh Nee Chicken Floss ($4.30), and the Orh Nee Coconut Flakes ($3.90). They also have an outlet-exclusive savoury and umami-packed Salted Egg Cream ($4.80) toast, which was a favourite of ours during our visit!

Go for the Boneless Roast Chicken Rice ($8.50), a staple dish here. The chicken flesh is said to be tender and juicy, and when paired with the soy sauce and garlic chilli, extra flavourful. Broke cafe girlies, here’s an option to consider the next time you’re running low on cash: Pancakes And Friends. Adorned with vintage cartoons and video game-esque decor, you can easily grab a bite here for less than $10! The space is located within Far East Plaza.
Their menu primarily consists of bagel and pancake dishes, served on adorable pink plates for the extra Instagram-worthy vibe. For the bagel sandwiches, you can opt to have it closed, or open, which is topped with double the usual stuff.
If you’re feeling extra bougie, get the Smoked Salmon Cheese ($8). Otherwise, if you’re opting for something more simple, there’s the Cream Cheese Scallions ($6) and Egg Mayo ($7). They also offer two sweet options: the Banana Chocolate and Strawberry Chocolate, which are $6 each.

12. Soi 47 Thai Food
Affordable Thai cuisine seems to be a recurring theme in this list, and another addition is Soi 47 Thai Food. Here you will find the usual Thai staples: Thai-style Omelette ($6.50), Green Curry with Chicken ($6.50), Masamman Chicken ($8.50), and of course Tom Yum Soup.
I believe that an indication of whether a Thai restaurant is worth a visit or not lies in their tom yum soup. But Soi 47 does not have to worry, for their Seafood Tom Yam Soup Clear ($9++) is a clear winner.
Sitting in the light broth is a medley of ingredients such as prawns, squid, mussels, mushrooms, and fried fish. They do not skimp out on the ingredients, and the soup carries a robust, tangy flavour. They also have the version with cream if that’s what you prefer.

Here to debunk the theory that vegan food is always overly expensive is Veggie House. They serve up local-inspired vegan fare, and almost everything on their menu is under $10! They are relatively well-known among the vegan community in Singapore, and have outlets all over the island including one at The Centrepoint.

Mapo tofu, a Chinese vegetarian staple consisting of mushrooms and tofu tossed in a spicy sauce, is one of the most-ordered dishes here. You can choose from two variations of this dish: the Mapo Tofu Ramen ($10.80) and the Mapo Tofu Rice ($10.80). Else, go for their Sarawak Kolo Noodle ($7.30) which uses vegetarian minced meat and vegetarian seafood tofu.

15. Signs A Taste Of Vietnam Pho
Signs A Taste of Vietnam Pho is a casual Vietnamese restaurant occupying the basement of Orchard Gateway. While many of the pho restaurants would charge upwards of $15 for a bowl, most of the noodle dishes here are priced at just $10. Considering that a lot of time and effort goes into preparing the pho broth, I don’t usually have a problem with such prices—but the fact that they price it so affordably is a major plus for me.
Their Sliced Beef Ribeye ($10) pho is said to consist of generous amounts of thinly-sliced beef ribeye, beansprouts, spring onions, and rice noodles, soaked in a light and beefy broth. Else, they also do an excellent Chicken Pho ($10) which swaps out beef for tender, succulent pieces of chicken.
