When Foong Kee Traditional Charcoal Roaster closed its shutters in 2021, fans were devastated. After all, the beloved roast meat stall had been around for 20-plus years, dishing out plate after plate of delicious yet affordable char siew, siew yoke and more.

According to an 8days.sg article, Foong Kee’s chef-owner wasn’t calling it quits just yet—he’d just needed to take a break back then. Previously located at the lively Keong Saik locale, the popular stall has now found home on the second floor of Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre.

The meats are all roasted in-house. Regulars love the eatery’s char siew, which is said to have a good char on the outside, with tender, juicy meat within. It also boasts an ideal fat-to-meat ratio. You can enjoy this sweet barbecued meat in the form of Char Siew Rice ($4).

Then there’s also the crowd favourite siew yoke AKA roast pork. It’s priced from $4 for a plate of Roast Pork Rice. Their siew yoke is well-loved for its delicious flavour and varied textures: crunchy skin, fatty middle layer, and tender meat. For the best of both worlds, get the Char Siew + Roast Pork Rice ($5.50) instead.

If you love dark meat, definitely try their Roast Duck Rice ($4.50), which comes with chunky slices of duck meat that glisten in their own juices. You could order Hong Kong-style noodles at their old location, but we’re not sure if they’ll be made available here.

Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre is an 11-minute walk or a short bus ride from Commonwealth MRT Station. The roast meat stall is right across from Hammee’s, which is known for their juicy handmade burgers.

Alternatively, another popular roast meat brand to check out is Roast Paradise, which has recently opened at Tampines.
