Goodwood Park Durian Fiesta 2019
The famous Goodwood Park Durian Fiesta is here again, and with it comes new treats that we’ve never seen. The annual durian dessert buffet runs from 4 May to 14 July 2019 at the hotel’s Coffee Lounge, with prices starting at $39.80++ this year.
A must-try is the new D24 Pandan Lapis Coconut Cake ($16 per slice, $88 for 1kg). The fluffy pandan sponge went surprisingly well with the layers of rich durian mousse, with shredded coconut flakes offering a little variety in texture to each bite.
Also new is this D24 Matcha Mont Blanc Tart ($42 for six tarts). While the light and fragrant pandan in the previous cake played a supporting role, the matcha here fought for centrestage. Each tart comprises a base of durian pulp as well as chestnut and matcha mousse that’s topped with a white chocolate dome.
The earthy flavour of matcha would satisfy green tea lovers, but those who are in it for the durian might find the taste of the fruit rather muted. If you’re dining in at the hotel, you can get these at $14.80++ for two, but note that this is not part of the buffet spread.
Don’t be fooled by this Magnum lookalike. Making its first ever appearance, the Mini D24 Ice Cream Bar ($22 for four) comes in four flavours, namely Dark Chocolate, Almond, Cappuccino and Oreo. I tried the Cappuccino, which has both durian and coffee ice-cream hiding within its crunchy chocolate case. Each bite offered a tasty mix of chocolate, durian and subtle coffee flavours without being overwhelmingly sweet. This is unfortuantely also not part of the buffet, but I highly recommend buying some home.
There are many other desserts that are part of the fiesta, including this D24 Ice Cream ($20 per tub, limited to one serving per person at the buffet) that was more like frozen durian pulp than ice-cream. You’ll find nine durian desserts at the buffet, alongside other pastries that are on rotation.
For something savoury to go with the sweets, try Coffee Lounge’s Taiwan Porridge A La Carte Buffet. This hearty feast sees over 30 dishes on the menu, with some highlights being their Baby Squids in Sweet Oyster Sauce, Deep-fried Pomfret in ‘Feng Sha’ Style, and Braised Pork Belly with Dark Soy Sauce.
So get your tummy ready for some neverending durian pastries and drop by the hotel soon. Here is the full list of prices for the durian buffet:
