Gyoza-San is a halal gyoza shop in Raffles Place
If you frequent the CBD, or more specifically CIMB Plaza‘s Basement 1, you may have come across a small but conspicuous kiosk with a bright red storefront that reads Gyoza-San.
Gyoza-San is said to be the first halal gyoza specialty store in Singapore. Over at their Raffles Place outlet, they’ve got eight gyoza flavours to choose from, including lesser-seen options of Mala ($6.90) and Unagi ($7.50).
Do note that the prices listed are for a box of six dumplings. These pot stickers are neatly lined up in a row, pan-fried on one side. According to a brand representative, Gyoza-San uses a traditional Japanese cast iron pan to fire up the gyoza right before they’re served, so you get a crispy exterior with a juicy middle.
There’s also the Tom Yam Kung ($7.50). These pink dumplings come with a side of tom yum sauce on the side so you can drizzle over as much or as little as you like.
Each piece comes with a prawn and chicken filling, pairing well with the tangy and punchy tom yum sauce that has a strong kick of spice. Take precautions if you’re not good with spicy food!
The SG Chilli Crab ($7.50)Â is another winning flavour that nods to the classic zi char dish. Here, you get six dumplings served with a sweet and mildly spicy chilli crab sauce on the side.
These dumplings are packed with a prawn, chicken, and crabmeat filling. You do get a small chunk of real crabmeat in each piece, which pairs well with the rich chilli crab sauce.
For a more substantial lunch, order their $10 Value Bento Meal For 1. You can choose from three options: Teriyaki Chicken, Yakiniku Beef, and Tori Kaarage.
During our visit, we went for the beef bento, which featured a generous mountain of yakiniku-style beef slices, sweet onions, and seaweed, piled atop short-grain rice.
The bento also comes with three Original gyoza, plus a small bowl of Superior Chicken Soup, so you’ll definitely be satiated after your meal.
Besides Raffles Place, Gyoza-San has two other outlets: Marina One and Sun Plaza.
