With travel bans and everything up in the air thanks to the pandemic, I’m deeply grateful for any form of pseudo-travel experience. We had trendy Korean-styled fat macarons last week, and now there’s buzz about the super famous Hong Kong Hang Heung bakery hitting our shores.Â

Although they have over 100 kinds of Chinese pastries under their belt, some must-tries include their Hang Heung Wife Cake ($2.80 each or $15 for a box of six), Red Bean Paste Cake ($2.50), Mini Egg Yolk Cake ($2.50 each), and Handmade Egg Rolls ($25.80).

The 100-year-old bakery has obviously stood the test of time, as the unchanging taste of their traditional pastries has garnered fans in Hong Kong and overseas alike. These pastries are handmade, with original recipes used since 1920. The beauty of each of their cakes is attributed to be the combination of a flaky and buttery crust, along with a sticky centre.

Those who can’t wait any longer can head to their pop-up at Raffles City from 24 August 2020. They will be located at #B1-K9, which is right outside the exit of Jason’s Market Place Supermarket.Â
At this pop-up, you can expect classic mooncakes such as their White Lotus Seed Mooncake ($68.80 for four pieces), as well as a range of lava custard mooncakes priced at $58.80 for six pieces.Â

If you’re looking for something new this mooncake festival, skip the original flavour and check out their Matcha Red Bean Mooncake. It is made with Japanese Kyoto Uji matcha green tea powder that is balanced by a sweet and molten red bean centre.
For more sweet treats, check out Paris Baguette’s limited-edition Milo, bandung, and condensed milk croissants which freshly dropped this week. Unlike Hang Heung’s pastries, these Singapore-inspired goodies will only be here from 1 to 9 August 2020, so make haste and get one for yourself soon!
