If you love Taiwanese food but, like me, have neither the time nor money to visit Taiwan, you might want to put Hei Lun Shi Tang on your bucket list. This humble Taiwanese eatery serves up no-frills Taiwanese fare in old-school metal bento boxes!
Tucked away in Queensway Shopping Centre, Hei Lun Shi Tang prides themselves on their authentic Taiwanese food. They are best known for their braised pork, which is said to be simmered in premium soya sauce and Taiwanese rice wine for hours to achieve its rich flavour.
Their signature Braised Pork Rice ($5.80/$6.80) AKA lu rou fan is prepared with short-grain Japonica rice and premium Duroc minced pork. It comes with a variety of ingredients too, including stewed cabbage and carrots, pickled vegetables, shiitake mushroom and a braised egg.
For something more indulgent, opt for the Three Pig Bento ($7.80), a dish that stars a trio of pork belly, pork chop, and braised pork on white rice.
Curry lovers will enjoy the Curry Braised Pork Rice ($7.80/$8.80), which features braised pork, fried chicken pieces, carrot and potato chunks, with an aromatic curry.
Diners recommend pairing the braised pork rice sets with Gongwan Soup ($4.50), AKA pork balls soup. Considered a staple soup dish in Taiwan, it comprises white radish and meatballs, stuffed with pork and prawn.
Hei Lun Shi Tang also offers Taiwanese-style noodles if rice isn’t your carb of choice. You can go for the Braised Pork Noodles ($5.50), which come in a generous portion of springy la mian, topped with braised pork and a hard-boiled egg.
