Hung Huat Cakes And Pastries has new yam milk mochi tarts
Hung Huat Cakes And Pastries is a well-known traditional bakery in Sims Vista Market & Food Centre. Their CNY treats and Teochew-style orh nee mooncakes are always popular and often sell out each season. Ever since they’ve added two new mochi-centred offerings—Hokkaido Milk Mochi x Signature Teochew Orh Nee ($7 each, $40 for six) and Hokkaido Milk Mochi x Black Sesame Paste ($8 each,$46 for six), their online popularity has skyrocketed!Â
Hung Huat Cakes And Pastries: Famous Old-School Bakery Since 1978
We visited the old-school bakery for yet another mochi-centered pastry that is only available for a limited time: the Orh Nee Milk Mochi with Lava Salted Egg Tart ($4.50 each, $16 for four). This new creation features a buttery crust filled with their house-made yam paste, signature milk mochi, and a rich salted egg lava centre.Â
When we tried this new pastry, we were impressed by how fresh and crumbly the base was. The moment we opened the tart, the salted egg yolk oozed out so fast, dripping down the stretchy mochi through the cracks of the yam paste. It was quite the experience!
Taste-wise, the orh nee was not too sweet, with a slight nuttiness. This snack reminded me of a good liu sha bao paired with a satisfying chew of mochi, but in tart form.

Because they don’t use preservatives and want to ensure the freshness of their pastries, the Orh Nee Milk Mochi with Lava Salted Egg Tart is made in small batches daily. To guarantee you get your hands on this new creation, you can pre-order it on their website on Mondays from 9pm onwards and pick up your order between Friday and Sunday.
In addition to their limited-edition creations and mochi-centred items, they are particularly famous for their Tau Sar Piah ($4 for five), which features sweet or savoury mung bean paste encased in flaky pastry layers. They also offer Ondeh Ondeh ($3 for four), Pumpkin Kueh ($3 for four), Huat Kueh ($9), Kueh Lapis ($40), and more, all freshly made with natural ingredients.
When asked about the end date for this limited-edition pastry, the owner mentioned that they plan to wrap it up in early December to focus on their Chinese New Year bakes. When that time comes, be sure to check out their Pineapple Tarts (from $15), featuring house-made pineapple paste that strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and tartness, as well as their Love Letters (from $16), Green Pea Cookies ($15), Manuka Honey Kuey Bu-Ru ($12), and all the other festive treats you might need!
