As one of the only two claypot rice stalls to have received a Michelin Bib Gourmand, New Lucky Claypot Rice is bona fide hawker royalty. The 43-year-old stall can be found in Holland Drive Market and Food Centre serving up the claypot rice prepared with traditional techniques.

Said technique involves cooking the rice over charcoal fire, as opposed to gas, which is what many claypot rice stalls now use. This results in a smokier flavour, but the downside is that each pot of rice takes longer to prepare—waiting times at the stall can range from 20 to 90 minutes during peak hours.

The fact that so many still patron the stall in spite of this, however, is testament to its quality.

There are three sizes of claypot rice you can get: for Two Pax ($15), Three Pax ($25), and Four Pax ($30). Regardless of which size you get, your pot will be full of dark soya sauce-infused rice, juicy chicken chunks, chinese sausage, and salted fish. These all possess a smoky fragrance that is unique to claypot rice.

An additional $5 will add more ingredients to your already brimming pot. If you’d like to add some greens to your order, you can get the Oyster Sauce Veg (from $5) as well.
