1. Tonkatsu Daiki

Singapore certainly isn’t short on tonkatsu spots, and adding to the list is Tonkatsu Daiki. Straight from Japan, their Osaka outlet has earned a spot in the Michelin Guide for four consecutive years! They’re opening soon on the fifth floor of Ngee Ann City.

At Tonkatsu Daiki, every pork cutlet is coated in panko breadcrumbs and fried slowly at controlled temperatures. The result? A light, golden crust that’s crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The tonkatsu is then served with a selection of condiments, including grated daikon with citrus soy, plum-flavoured daikon sauce, miso katsu sauce, and the classic tonkatsu sauce.

We’ll update this article once we get more information on the new opening.

Fans can expect the bakery chain’s famous pastries, including the iconic Mary Grace Ensaymada ($5.50++), their famous cheese bread. If you’re after something a little different, try the Singapore-exclusive Salted Egg Ensaymada ($6.50++), which takes the classic up a notch with a salted egg yolk lava filling. Pair your bakes with the signature Mary Grace Hot Chocolate ($7.50++), a rich and velvety chocolate drink that’s been a hit in the Philippines.

There’s also a solid range of savoury mains, including the delicious Angus Beef Tapa ($25.50++). This dish pairs tender sirloin beef with fried eggs and your choice of garlic or rosemary rice—a favourite of ours.

6. Aifokato

aifokato-storefront

Aifokato is a kid on the Telok Ayer block, serving up DIY affogatos that you can fully customise with a variety of gelato flavours and pours. Each cup costs $10, no matter what you pick, so you can mix and match without worrying about the price.

aifokato-pour-prep

Start by choosing from four gelato flavours: Vanilla, Pistachio, Matcha, or Chocolate. Then, pair your scoop with a shot of Espresso, Matcha, or Chocolate. We loved the combo of Pistachio gelato with Espresso—the bittersweet coffee was the perfect match for the nutty ice cream. If you’re a matcha fan, go for the Matcha gelato with a shot of Matcha for a double caffeine boost!

For those who love a bit of spice, we recommend the Spicy Herbal ($38++) samgyetang. It’s zesty, packed with flavour, and sure to satisfy. Otherwise, try the new menu additions, including the Wild Mushroom ($48++) and Truffle ($48++), prepared with black truffles for an umami-packed aroma. And if you’re looking to splurge, the Chicken & Premium Seafood ($74++) features a hearty mix of Korean abalone and octopus.

9. Sio Pasta

Raffles City is quickly becoming the new hotspot for trendy openings, and the latest addition to the mall is Sio Pasta, a pasta bar by renowned Japanese chef Shusaku Toba. He’s best known for his work at the Michelin-approved Sio Aoyama in Tokyo.

sio-pasta-flatlay

Pasta here starts at just $13.80++, which is surprisingly affordable for a restaurant in such a central location. The Fried Egg, Cheese, Salted Kelp Japanese-style Pasta ($13.80++) is the cheapest main on the menu, featuring spaghetti in a house-made sauce with cheese and salted kelp, topped with a fried egg. The combination of gooey cheese and runny egg yolk, balanced by the umami of salted kelp, makes for a satisfying bite. For something a little extra, check out The Best Mentaiko Pasta ($16.80), an April special that pairs fresh pasta with a creamy mentaiko sauce.
