Japan Rail Cafe in Tanjong Pagar has teamed up with the beloved Sanrio character Pompompurin for a themed pop-up running from 4 May to 14 June 2026.

Inspired by Japan’s Tohoku region, the menu is packed with cute and comforting bites, starting with the Pompompurin Curry Rice ($22.90++), where fluffy egg rice moulded into Pompompurin’s likeness sits in a rich savoury curry with crispy chicken karaage on the side. For something lighter, the Inaniwa Udon Onsen Bath ($18++) serves silky thin noodles in a delicate beef broth. Round off your meal with the Pompompurin Pudding Parfait ($12.90++), a caramel pudding topped with whipped cream. Fortune Centre has long been a goldmine for underrated eats, and the latest gem to join the fold is Onigiri GON, a Japanese-run onigiri eatery operated by a Fukuoka native. The compact space seats around 15 diners and serves up 20 handmade onigiri flavours, freshly made on-site every day.

Prices start at $4.90 for classics including Ume and Konbu, and go up to $6.90 for premium fillings such as Ebi Tempura and Spicy Salmon. 6. Between Buns Deli

You may know Between Buns Deli from their home-based days during the pandemic, when they built a loyal following through pop-ups and drop shipments. After six years, they’ve finally opened their first permanent space in Tanjong Pagar, and the internet is loving it—they’ve already hit a 4.8-star rating on Google just two weeks in.

On the menu, the Oxtail Melt ($23) is a must-order: 24-hour braised oxtail, melty cheddar, pickled cucumber, and chilli mayo, packed into a crunchy sourdough. For breakfast, the Chicken Sausage & Egg Muffin ($13) is a crowd-pleaser, while the Fried Chicken ($16) on brioche is every bit as indulgent as it sounds. Save room for the Double Chip Cookie ($5.50), a sweet-salty treat combining chocolate chip and Ruffles potato chips.

7. Tofu G Gelato (UE Square)

Popular Korean dessert brand Tofu G has opened its fourth Singapore outlet at UE Square, bringing its signature tofu-based gelato to the CBD. Unlike traditional gelato, each batch here uses a tofu base inspired by Korean tofu-making techniques, resulting in a treat that’s lighter on the palate but still wonderfully creamy. The brand’s newest flavour, Pomegranate Tofu Gelato, makes its debut at this outlet. The existing lineup of Original Tofu, Chocolate, Black Sesame, and Pistachio remains, with each scoop priced at $8.

8. Sakeshi – The Salmon House

If you’re a salmon devotee, Sakeshi – The Salmon House just be your new go-to. The restaurant, a three-minute walk from Beauty World MRT Station, has been turning heads for its viral Waterfall Salmon Yuzu Soba ($50.80+): what appears to be a bowl of noodles made entirely from thick-cut salmon sashimi is combined tableside with cold yuzu soba and salmon sashimi toppings. The yuzu broth is tangy and citrus-forward, and the thick salmon “strands” are rich and satisfying, though the high price tag means it’s best reserved for a special occasion.

More accessible is the Sakeshi Salmon Collagen Soup ($14.80+), a six-hour slow-simmered broth packed with salmon chunks, mushrooms, daikon, and seaweed.

9. Big Mouth Bakehouse

If you were heartbroken when Fluff Bakery shuttered last year, here’s some good news: the team is back, now rebranded as Big Mouth Bakehouse at Wisma Geylang Serai. While the iconic cupcakes have been retired, the new menu is a refreshed and exciting lineup of Muslim-friendly bakes, savoury sandwiches, and freshly brewed coffee, all priced nett, with no service charge or GST.

On the savoury side, the Thai Beef Salad Focaccia Sandwich ($12.50) stands out, packed with beef slices and a house-made Thai green chilli sauce that cuts through the richness perfectly. The Tempeh Balado with Kemangi & Binga Kantan ($9) is another winner, featuring crunchy tempeh in a mild sambal, lifted by lemon basil and torch ginger. For something sweet, the puffy Matcha Strawberry Doughnut ($4.50), filled with matcha cream and strawberry jam, pairs beautifully with the Bueno Latte ($8), a hazelnut-chocolate espresso drink.

9. XH Delicious Seafood

The story behind XH Delicious Seafood is as compelling as the food itself. Chef Devid Retanasamy, better known online as “Xiao Hei”, is a Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking Indian chef who rose to fame at his previous stall in Farrer Park. After being scammed out of $27,000 and facing a string of setbacks, he’s now back with a proper solo venture on Temple Street in Chinatown.

A highlight is the Moonlight Hor Fun ($7): silky, smoky hor fun coated in dark soy sauce, topped with a raw egg that adds a creamy richness when mixed in. Seafood lovers shouldn’t miss the Chilli Crab ($48), served pre-cut and drenched in a thick, mildly spiced chilli gravy that even spice-averse diners can enjoy.
