Kopitiam Food Hall at Plaza Singapura
Dhoby Ghaut mall Plaza Singapura may be undergoing a massive revamp, but don’t take the mall off your radar just yet━the reno is happening in stages, and some mainstay tenants are sticking it through. One of these is Kopitiam Food Hall on Level 6, which already had its glow-up a couple years back, and is putting out a whole bunch of 50% off eVouchers exclusively for Eatbook readers to enjoy.
Boasting close to 30 stalls, it’s no wonder that Kopitiam Food Hall at Plaza Singapura has always been a favourite dining spot for everyone of all ages. There’s something for everyone and every palate, from viral Yuen Kee Dumpling to Michelin-recognised Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang.
Just in case you haven’t explored this Kopitiam, here are all the stalls you can check out, other than those we’ve named: Juice Bar, Riverside Indonesian BBQ, Beradik by Western Boy, Kim Dae Bak, Hai Ge Ji Beef Noodle, Pepper Lunch Express, Belly Belly Good Cai Fan, Mei Wei Mala Hotpot, Seabay Delight Mini Wok, Aher Soup, Hong Hu Ramen, and Original Fish Soup.
If you’re looking for a hug in a bowl, check out Chong Qing Mini Pot for their Tomato Luncheon Meat Mini Pot with Rice/Noodles ($8.80) that’s sure to warm your stomach with its tangy tomato broth.
We especially loved the chonky cuts of luncheon meat that paired splendidly with the appetising broth, and the rice noodles which soaked it all up. It’s also packed with loads of veg, which in our opinion makes this a pretty complete meal for one, or even two small eaters.
Instead of your typical cai png, consider Homewok for your next solo lunch. As its name suggests, their menu is inspired by home cooked fare, where you can pick from a selection of zi char dishes, with free-flow rice.
Our picks: Long Pepper Pork ($3.90), Stir-fried Chinese Cabbage ($2.90), and Marinated Chicken Dice ($2.90)━just like mama’s.
Of course, you can hardly have a Kopitiam without some familiar hawker favourites, and New Hong Kong Roast serves up a solid Char Siew & Roast Pork Rice ($8.80).
If you’re like a leaner cut of char siew and siew yok, feel free to let the staff know. Plus, they serve this with fragrant rice, a la chicken rice, which is a win in our books.
Lest you think that your dollar can’t go far in town, Sing Hi Fry is here to prove otherwise━their large plate of Traditional Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee is priced at $8.80, but the portion easily feeds up to four small eaters, we think.
Not only is their blend of bee hoon and yellow noodles thoroughly cooked through with the seafood-y stock, it’s complete with large, fresh prawns, rings of squid, and a fragrant belacan.
There’s something for the ones wanting to eat clean too, with Hakka Lei Popo and their Lei Cha (from $6.80). Opt for brown rice with a top-up of $0.60, and treat yourself to some Hakka yong tau foo ($1.60) while you’re at it.
It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but trust us when we say there’s no better place to kickstart your appreciation of thunder tea rice than with this bowl that’s chock full of textures and flavour.
For a meal option that you can have on the go, there’s Kebabwala, where a Chicken Kebab Wrap ($8) comes packed with chunky slices of chicken and generous fillings of fresh greens.
