Scoop & Sketch: New Gelato Cafe With Funky Decor And A Tattoo Studio, Opens Till 12AM

28th February 2024

Scoop & Sketch is a cute new gelato cafe in Aljunied

If you reside in Aljunied, you’re in luck. Scoops & Sketch is a cool new gelato cafe that’s a mere four-minute walk from Aljunied MRT Station. The best part is they open till 12am every day!

Scoop And Sketch - Retro Decor

You won’t miss the cafe as the space is decked in bright and colourful seats, as well as neon-lit signs that’ll immediately catch your eye if you’re walking by. Paw-rents will be chuffed to know that the outdoor area is pet-friendly. The bold look continues indoors, with retro diner-style elements for a fun vibe.

Scoop And Sketch - Gelato Ice Cream

Head inside to get some desserts on the first floor; there’s a full line-up of gelato flavours to choose from, with popular options including Grape Yakult, Blue Pea Vanilla, Chrysanthemum Cacao Nibs, Pistachio, and Salted Butterscotch.

Scoop And Sketch - Gelato Ice Cream

A single scoop costs $5. Double and triple scoops go for $9 and $12 respectively, with a $1 top-up per premium flavour. I tried the Speculoos and curiously-named Sneakers. Mystery solved: the latter is just a playful pun on Snickers, and the gelato is indeed flavoured to be like the chocolate bar—peanut-forward, with notes of chocolate and caramel.

Scoop And Sketch - Speculoos

What really stole my heart was the Speculoos. As a lover of Lotus Biscoff and Speculoos-flavoured desserts, I find that they are often overbearingly sweet. I was expecting the same here, but found that the recipe was noticeably more muted in sweetness, while still having a strong Speculoos flavour throughout. There were also biscuit crumbs swirled in the gelato, so you know it’s made with the real deal.

Scoop And Sketch - Waffle Machine

There’s also the option to upgrade your dessert with a Waffle ($7).

Scoop And Sketch - Waffle Cross Section

These baked-to-order waffles were light and fluffy, with a slightly crispy exterior. Beyond the accompanying gelato, the drizzle of butterscotch and chocolate sauce gave the waffle more moisture and variety in flavour.

Scoop And Sketch - Happy Meal Combo

For more value for money, opt for their Happy Meal combo, where a Single Scoop + Waffle + Drink is priced at $14, and $18 or $21 for double and triple scoop respectively.

Scoop And Sketch - Drinks

You can choose your beverage from a series of Korean convenience store-style drink packets, served with a cup of ice. Flavours include Shine Muscat, Watermelon, Blue Lemonade, Peach Iced Tea, and a canned Orangeade. The usual price for these drinks is $4 each, so getting the combo will help you save two bucks. Quick math!

Fair warning: the drinks are super duper sweet. It almost tasted like melted-down candy. If you find it a tad too sugary upon first sip, the staff can help you dilute it with water on request. Alternatively, coffee is also available here; a Long Black costs $5 while a Latte or Mocha are each $6.

Scoop And Sketch - Peanut Butter Strawberry

To go with the waffle, we ordered a scoop of Peanut Butter Strawberry gelato. Despite the white-ish base, I was shocked at how pronounced the peanut butter flavour was. The ripple of strawberry jam throughout gave it a nice tartness. Overall, it was like eating a frozen, creamier version of a PB&J.

Scoop And Sketch - Black Sesame

Black Sesame lovers need to give Scoop & Sketch’s rendition a shot. It tastes just like black sesame paste or the black sesame filling of tang yuan, but not as heavy and thick. Although the texture is a lot lighter and palatable, the black sesame flavour profile still punches through.

Scoop And Sketch - Craft Beer

Because the cafe is open till midnight daily, it’s an excellent spot to chill with friends and get some HTHT going. Apart from waffles and gelato, you can also accompany a good convo with Scoop & Sketch’s extensive lineup of Craft Beers (from $11.50). We spotted some intriguing and borderline wacky flavour offerings, including a Peanut Butter Milk Stout ($19) and Banana Crepes Suzette Ice Cream Sour ($20).

Scoop And Sketch - Tattoo Studio

That’s not all: the two-storey building houses a tattoo parlour on the second floor, so you can get inked after indulging in some sweet treats. The studio is run by Naked Skin Tattoo.
