With the impending GST hike and inflation, finding a cheap meal under $3 is like looking for a needle in a haystack. But if you look close enough, there are options around, such as Feng Ji Kway Chap, where you can get a set for $2.50, and Steam Rice Kitchen‘s $2 Ipoh Curry Noodles.

Helmed by an Ipoh-born hawker, the new stall is located in Toa Payoh North, a nine-minute walk from Braddell MRT Station. Recently, they’ve been making waves online for their cheap Ipoh curry noodles, which go for just $2 a bowl.

Do note that this price gets you noodles with their signature curry broth, topped with beansprouts, sans meat. Nonetheless, online reviewers tout the curry to be rich and robust, with a spicy kick—notably less lemak than Singapore-style curry mee, so you don’t feel jelak after slurping on the broth.

If you need more liao, consider going for the standard $4.80 portion, which includes extra fixings such as fried bean curd skin and long beans. There’s also a $5.80 serving that comes with yong tau foo pieces.

Alternatively, order their Ipoh Curry Chee Cheong Fun with Pork Skin ($4.80): silky rice noodle sheets drenched in the same curry broth, topped with crispy fried pork skin.

The aforementioned dishes are only available for breakfast, from 7am to 11am.

If you’re visiting for lunch, the stall offers a wide range of steamed dishes and soups, including their Signature Herbal Chicken ($7.90). This aromatic dish features half a chicken cooked in a nourishing mix of herbs.

Their Signature Coconut Chicken Soup ($7.90), which stars black chicken thigh cooked in a Thai young coconut, is another must-try.
