There are few things as quintessentially Singaporean as a breakfast comprising kaya butter toast, soft-boiled eggs, and a kopi or teh. Sadly, it’s also a very Singaporean thing to be met with price hikes. At the time of writing, a breakfast set at Ya Kun comprising the aforementioned components will set you back $6.30. That’s why finding a potential dupe is cause for celebration, and that’s where Teck Huat Coffee Roti comes in. At this Ya Kun dupe, you can get breakfast sets at just $3.80.

We stumbled upon the stall along Shunfu Road in Bishan, but they also have branches in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay, Chong Pang Market & Food Centre in Yishun, Geylang, Hougang, and Old Airport Road Food Centre. This is great news because it means that residents across all these areas get to enjoy Teck Huat Coffee Roti’s diverse range of affordable breakfast sets. What’s more, the stall whips up their own fragrant pandan kaya!

They have six different varieties of the signature SG breakfast set. For $3.80, you’ll get two soft-boiled eggs and your choice of kopi or teh together with either kaya butter toast, fluffy bread with kaya or peanut butter spread, a kaya butter sandwich, or kaya butter bun. You can also get a kaya butter French loaf set (price TBD).

Drinks-wise, netizens have raved about how their Coffee Latte ($2.70) and Tea Latte ($2.70) are especially gao. They’re said to be smooth and creamy while still having a strong kick of either coffee or tea, which is just what you need to fire up those engines in the morning.

Another interesting beverage they offer is Iced Tapioca Coffee (price TBD) and Iced Tapioca Tea (price TBD). The owner adds a scoop of tapioca powder into the brews for a unique, mildly earthy taste, and a thicker consistency than a standard kopi or teh peng.

The next time you’re craving an old-school breakfast set and want to save some moolah, head to one of Teck Huat Coffee Roti’s numerous outlets islandwide. Not only will you get to save a couple of bucks, you’ll also be supporting local hawkers instead of pricey chains.

If coffee and toast stalls are your jam, be sure to check out our feature on Zheng Ming Cha Shi, which serves oat milk kopi in Hong Lim Complex. We also visited the famous Coffee Break stall in Amoy Street Food Centre, known for their fancy toast spreads in flavours like black sesame and Earl Grey.
