There are many success stories of home-based businesses opening brick-and-mortar stores: think Whiskdom, She Sells Seashells, and Whisking Bakes. Another big name in the scene is Wunderfolks, a tart specialty shop that has just opened a takeaway kiosk at Tampines Mall.
Despite being a relatively young business—they started as a home-based bakery in 2021—Wunderfolks has already grown to four outlets islandwide. This new Tampines branch is the latest to join the club, though co-founder Dale has also hinted at an upcoming launch in Lot One sometime next month.
Fans will be pleased to know that the homegrown brand’s signature tarts are available here, with a total of eight flavours to pick from, priced at $8 each.
To get the most bang for your buck, get a box of six tarts at $42, which makes for a great gift as well!
You won’t go wrong with the Mixed Fruit tart, a classic dessert that features a sweet shortcrust pastry base with a light vanilla custard, topped with fresh blueberries, strawberry slices, grapes, and peaches. We loved how the tart shell remained crisp despite sitting out for a while.
For something refreshing, consider the Lemon Meringue flavour. This came with a generous amount of tangy lemon curd that was bright and citrusy but leaned sweet.
There’s also a nice selection of viennoiseries on the menu, freshly baked over at Wunderfolks’ central kitchen in Geylang.
From now till 30 July 2023, get a box of five pieces at $20! There’s also a 6 Piece Taster Box at $25 that’ll be made available after the opening promotion.
Savoury picks include the Truffle Mushroom ($6)Â and Garlic Brioche ($3), both pictured above. Alternatively, try the Pain Au Chocolat ($5) if you have a sweet tooth.
Before you leave, da bao a box or two of their new alcohol-free tiramisu boxes, big enough to feed two to three people. There are three flavours to choose from: Strawberry ($15), Biscoff ($12.80), and Original ($12.80).
The takeaway kiosk is located on the ground floor of Tampines Mall, a minute by foot from Tampines MRT Station if you alight from the green line exit.
If you’re in the east, venture to Dough In Jungle, a hidden gem bakery in the new Tampines North estate! Here you’ll find cheap buns and pandan waffles that are freshly made on-site. Otherwise, check out the newly opened Ralph’s Coffee, a cafe by Ralph Lauren in MBS.
Address:Â 4 Tampines Central 5, #01-40, Tampines Mall, Singapore 529510
Opening hours: Daily 8:30am to 10pm
