Yo-Chi Frozen Yoghurt opens at Orchard Central

You may have heard of Yo-Chi, a cult-favourite Australian dessert chain known for its self-serve frozen yoghurt and acai. If you’ve been meaning to try it, you’re in luck, because the brand just opened its first international outlet in Singapore! This marks the brand’s first overseas opening.

The new cafe sits on the ground floor of Orchard Central, directly connected to Somerset MRT Station. I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and inviting it felt, with plenty of seating to accommodate groups of all sizes.

The Orchard Central store offers the same delicious range of yoghurts, with a whopping 10 flavours to choose from. Made from real Australian milk, these creamy froyos are said to be low in calories, 98% fat-free, and packed with probiotics.

Here’s what we got: Matcha and Salted Butterscotch in one bowl, and Signature Tart and Acai in another.

Fun fact: Yo-Chi is the first in Singapore to offer a self-serve acai experience! You can even ask for free samples to taste the different flavours before committing to one.

After dispensing your soft serves, head to the toppings bar, where you’ll find an extensive assortment ranging from fresh fruits to mochi and edible cookie dough.

Singapore-exclusive toppings include coconut jelly, nata de coco, and mango popping pearls.

NGL, I was feeling a little overwhelmed and spoiled for choice with the array of options. If you’re indecisive like me, I’d recommend taking some time to explore the toppings bar before dispensing your froyo.

As someone with a sweet tooth, my favourite section was the drizzle bar, which offered a lineup of warm sauces including peanut butter, Biscoff, and even Nutella on tap.

You can crown your dessert bowl with Yo-Chi’s signature cake squares: Chocolate Chunk Cookie Cake and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

I preferred the latter—it reminded me of a zhnged-up version of Betty Crocker’s Fudge Brownie Mix.

Before you go ham on the toppings, note that each bowl is priced by weight: $3.50 per 100g. Our two bowls came up to 778g in total, so the damage was $27.24. TBH, I was expecting the bill to be higher, considering how much we’d piled into our bowls.

Out of the four flavours we tried, Salted Butterscotch was our unanimous favourite. It struck the perfect balance of sweet and salty, with a rich, buttery undertone. It also paired well with the Matcha flavour, which wasn’t overly grassy or earthy—more like Thai green milk tea, but less floral.

If you’re a froyo purist, you’ll enjoy the Signature Tart flavour. Unlike most other froyos I’ve tried, which often lean thin and icy, Yo-Chi’s version was notably creamy with a slight tang. It was also distinctly milky, so those who aren’t fans of milkier flavours might want to give this a pass.

Those who love acai bowls can consider the vegan-friendly Acai soft serve here, which was smooth with a berry-like tartness.

Since Yo-Chi Singapore has just opened, I’d recommend visiting during off-peak hours or waiting a bit for the initial hype to die down to avoid the crowds.
