Love Seafood Batam Centre has chilli crab and Thai-style fish
It’s not a Batam trip without a nice seafood dinner. Love Seafood Batam Centre is a popular choice for many tourists, and it’s easy to see why.
The open-air restaurant is a seven-minute cab ride from Batam Centre Point International Ferry Terminal, and plenty going for it: it is spacious and comfortable, the prices won’t break the bank, and you can choose the fresh catch of your choice from live tanks.
When the waiter found out we were Singaporeans, he recommended we try their Chilli Crab (from Rp 260,000+/~S$24.50+)—the man clearly knows our preferences well. The sweet chilli sauce we know and love was present here, imbuing each bite with a piquant flavour.
While the crab is affordable and well-prepared, it lacked in the size department. Even the pincer, which should be the meatiest part of the crab, underwhelmed in that aspect.
Another dish that Singaporeans will enjoy—flavour-wise, at least—is the Salted Egg Prawns (Rp 65,000+/~S$6.10+). You get a rich, buttery flavour that’s enhanced by the bits of garlic, onions, and chilli slices strewn throughout. However, though the waiter told us these were prawns, they were more like shrimps in terms of size. You may want to look elsewhere if you value quality over affordability, but for those of us on a budget trip, Love Seafood should suffice just fine.
Then there’s also the Thai Style Fish (Rp 168,000+/~S$15.90+); the Thai-style sauce is packed with the flavours of chilli, lemongrass and garlic, bringing a zestiness to the tender and decently-sized fish.
