Made’s Warung is a famous Indonesian restaurant in Seminyak Bali
Whenever someone asks me to recommend them good food in Bali, I always tell them to check out Made’s Warung––my favourite Indonesian restaurant on the island. The famous warung has a few outlets across Bali, including one in the airport, but I always visit their Seminyak outlet as it’s the most spacious.
The restaurant has a huge alfresco area complete with rattan chairs and wooden tables amidst a backdrop of trees and potted plants. At night, the space comes alive with cultural dances and cha cha cha performances.
My favourite dish at Made’s Warung is their Gado Gado (IDR40K++/~S$3.65++), which in my humble opinion, is one of the best in Bali. This traditional Indonesian salad is an amalgamation of sweet, spicy, and savoury flavours, and comprises a medley of blanched vegetables such as tofu, tempeh, and lontong.
The star of the dish is definitely the heady sauce, which is made using ground peanuts, spices, herbs, sweet soya sauce, and coconut milk. Out of all the gado gado I’ve tried in Bali, Made’s Warung’s rendition has the thickest, creamiest peanut sauce.
Gado Gado typically comes with crispy keropok too, and this can be crushed into smaller pieces or used as a spoon to scoop up the ingredients.
Another dish worth trying is the Nasi Goreng Special (IDR75K++/~S$6.84++), featuring fragrant fried rice served with prawns, chicken, and three chicken satay. We also loved the orange sambal paste that elevated the dish with its piquant flavour.
I couldn’t get enough of the yummy chicken satay, which was drenched in a dark peanut sauce that’s mixed with kecap manis. The satay was also chunky, similar to chicken skewers, and was tender with every bite.
We also had the Mie Goreng (IDR50K++/~S$4.56++), which saw springy noodles coated in a light, sweet sauce, topped with vegetables, prawns, and chicken chunks. The noodles also came with chilli, which made the dish quite spicy. My only regret was not ordering a fried egg to go with the noodles!
