Isetan Hanabi Matsuri Japanese food fair is at SingPost Centre
Following the successful run of Isetan’s Japanese food fair at NEX a couple of months ago, the department store has rolled out yet another edition. Isetan Hanabi Matsuri is a new food fair that takes place from now till 25 June 2023 at SingPost Centre—a short stroll from Paya Lebar MRT Station.
There are over 30 participating vendors at the fair, ranging from hot food and traditional Japanese snacks to pantry staples.
Near the entrance of the fair is Fruit Candy Shop Stone River, which also made an appearance at the Sakura Matsuri fair earlier in March.
Here you’ll find a lineup of Japanese candies made with Japanese sugar, in a myriad of designs. There’s a Piyo Piyo ($7) candy that comes with marshmallow within, a Grape ($5)Â trio coated with a crunchy sugar shell and many more!
Right next to the kiosk is Itoshima Farm, which specialises in Strawberry Shaved Ice ($12).
Each serving comes with stacks of thinly sliced, frozen strawberries, topped with a generous drizzle of Japanese condensed milk for a sweet and creamy dessert.
If you’re up for something savoury instead, order the Pork Cutlet Sandwich ($10)Â from Kyoto Cafe Momiji, a Kyoto-themed cafe by renowned Japanese chef Teppei Yamashita from Teppei Group.
Otherwise, Kompton‘s Hiroshima Okonomiyaki ($14)Â is a noteworthy pick that’s great for sharing.
The Japanese pancake dough is said to be made with a specific ratio of water and flour, and then seasoned with fishmeal and dashi broth. You also get a generous portion of noodles to fill up on.
Zhng up your okonomiyaki meal with a side of Chicken Cutlet with Cheese ($6.50)Â from Mitamura.
While the chunky cheese pieces weren’t oozy, the chicken coating was shatteringly crispy and flavourful.
There are plenty more stalls worth checking out, so head down with the fam for a Japanese food feast!
