There’s a new kid on the Serangoon Gardens block: Cafe Gyoen, a Japanese-inspired cafe with unique decor that’ll transport you to the Tokyo metro stations and train cabins!

On to the food: there’s a wide range of Japanese bites to try, from donburi bowls to maki rolls. If you’re feeling hungry, go for the Teishoku Big Breakfast sets—the cafe’s take on big breakfast meals, comprising onigiri, tamagoyaki, white goma spinach, miso soup, and pickles. The Wagyu Tataki ($29+), which stars seared Wagyu beef, is a popular pick.

They also have a small selection of Japanese curry rice options, including Katsu Curry Don ($18.90+): deep-fried panko-coated pork loin, pearl rice, and house-made curry.

Besides these mains, you can look forward to soba and udon dishes, as well as sharing plates such as Okonomiyaki Fries ($15+).

If you’re not that peckish, grab a light bite instead. The Waffle Gyoen ($12.50+) gets you stacks of freshly baked waffles served with maple syrup and butter. Else, top up $3+ for a scoop of ice cream!

The drinks menu at Cafe Gyoen looks pretty extensive, with lesser-seen options such as Orange Americano ($7.50+), Goma Latte ($7+), and Matcha Yuzu Spritz ($7+). Alternatively, their regular Flat White ($6+) is said to be delicious, too.
Cafe Gyoen is a 10-minute bus ride from Serangoon MRT Station.
