Word is in: TONSHOU, a famous Korean chain specialising in charcoal-grilled tonkatsu, is slated to open their first outlet in Singapore! The new restaurant will be located at Tras Street, the go-to spot for some of the best Korean restaurants. The soft launch, which is by online reservation only, is on 9 December 2024. Else, save 20 December 2024 for their grand opening!

For the uninitiated, TONSHOU is a well-loved pork cutlet restaurant in Korea that’s often booked out in advance. For a better sense of their popularity, all 300 daily slots are usually fully booked within just five minutes of the release time.

There’s good reason as to why diners queue just to try the pork cutlet. The meat goes through a meticulous four-step preparation process, where the pork cutlet is first cooked at a low temperature to ensure it remains tender and juicy. Then, the meat is deep-fried at a high temperature to achieve that crispy, golden brown crust.

Next, the meat goes through a resting process, before it’s grilled over charcoal for a smoky aroma, which is what makes TONSHOU’s tonkatsu special and extra delicious.

If this is your first visit, we recommend their bestselling Hire Katsu Set ($26++), featuring pork tenderloin cutlet with rice, soup, and kimchi on the side. Alternatively, the Rosu Katsu Set ($25++), starring pork loin instead of tenderloin, is equally popular. There’s also the Katsu Sando Set ($21++) for those who prefer bread to rice.

Also, their house-made tonkatsu sauce is a must-try: it’s a delicious blend of tomato, oyster, beef, pork, wheat, and soybean.
