The Bugis neighbourhood continues to welcome a wave of overseas brands, with recent openings such as Chick-fil-A Singapore and Xita Lao Tai Tai drawing even more crowds to the area. Now, another well-known name from China is set to join the mix—Yang’s Dumplings (小杨生煎) has been spotted with an “opening soon” storefront at Bugis Junction, with its launch expected in April 2026.

Founded in 1994, Yang’s Dumplings is a Shanghainese brand with roots tracing back to 1947, when founder Yang Lipeng began cooking pan-fried buns on a simple stove. What started as a small stall along Wujiang Road in Shanghai has since grown into a large chain, with 59 outlets across Shanghai and hundreds more throughout China.

The brand is widely known for its sheng jian bao, AKA pan-fried soup dumplings. Not to be confused with xiao long bao, which are delicate steamed dumplings with a thin skin and soup inside, sheng jian bao are pan-fried buns with fluffy dough, juicy filling, and crispy, golden-brown base.

While Yang’s Dumpling’s Singapore menu has yet to be confirmed, we can expect a range similar to its overseas outlets. This typically includes pan-fried buns, xiao long bao, wonton, noodles, soups, and other Shanghainese dishes. Based on menus from its China outlets, prices are generally kept affordable, with a standard serving of four sheng jian bao going for around ¥13, which works out to S$2.43.

Some of the items that could potentially be available here include the brand’s signature Pork Dumplings and Vine Pepper Prawn Dumplings. Other variations seen at international outlets include prawn and vegetable fillings.

Another option is the Shepherd’s Purse Dumpling, made with minced pork and finely chopped shepherd’s purse, a leafy green vegetable more commonly known as capsella or “jicai” in Chinese.

Aside from bao, the brand’s menu in Shanghai also features mains such as Spicy Beef Sauce Noodles, Scallion Oil Noodles, and soups including Beef Soup and Old Duck Soup, though it remains to be seen which of these will be introduced at the Bugis outlet.
With its upcoming opening, those who have tried Yang’s Dumplings overseas may soon be able to revisit its dishes locally. We’ll also update this new post with more information as soon as we have it.
