Ex-Banker Sells Gooey Levain-Style Cookies At Golden Mile Food Centre

8th October 2026

ATE Cookies opens at Golden Mile Food Centre

Donovan Wang is the latest in a growing list of young Singaporeans taking on the hawker trade: the 33-year-old recently opened a cookie stall at Golden Mile Food Centre. Originally a banker, his interest in F&B eventually led him to his first hawker venture, Wen Li Taiwanese Food, in 2021. Now, the young hawker has set up ATE Cookies, which specialises in New York-style cookies.

The business operates mostly as a one-man show, with Donovan baking fresh batches of cookies daily. Although he has no prior baking experience, his decadent cookies have been well received since the opening, so we decided to head down to give them a try.

Even before you reach the stall, you’ll probably smell chocolate wafting in the air. We arrived at 11am, before the lunch rush, and managed to catch Donovan baking a fresh batch.

There are currently four flavours available: Chocolate Lava ($7), Walnut Chocolate, Oatmeal Raisin, Matcha Macadamia ($5.50 each). We hear that more flavours may be dropping soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

ATE-choco lava

The Chocolate Lava is a premium flavour, suitable for hardcore chocolate fans or those craving a very indulgent treat.

Its center is filled with a thick, gooey chocolate fudge, making it incredibly decadent and rich. The dough was slightly crispy on the outside while dense on the inside, and paired with the warm, runny chocolate, the cookie had a nice mix of textures. Surprisingly, it was not too sweet despite all the chocolate, and was best enjoyed with a cup of milk.

ATE-matcha

The matcha cookie was my favourite, with large chunks of white chocolate and macadamias mixed through the dough.

It had a mildly earthy flavour that paired well with the white chocolate. The macadamias added a toasty nuttiness, mellowing out the cookie’s sweetness while providing some extra texture.

ATE-oatmeal raisin

If you’re looking for something classic, the oatmeal raisin is the one for you. It has that familiar cinnamon taste commonly associated with the cookie flavour, although milder than expected. Texturally, it’s grittier than the other cookies due to the addition of oats. And raisins are always a bit of an acquired taste, but those who get it, get it.

Lastly, there’s the walnut chocolate, which is always a safe option. It’s pretty run-of-the-mill, though there’s not much to complain about.

While the cookies are on the pricey side, they’re worth getting if you’re craving a rich, indulgent treat to satisfy your sweet tooth.
