Bunnies has fresh buns from $2.20 at People’s Park Complex
If you’ve walked past People’s Park Complex and never paid attention to the small bakery at the front, you’re not alone. Bunnies has a simple storefront and a tacky pink rabbit logo that honestly looks like a tourist trap; I’ve walked past it countless times without giving a second glance. It wasn’t until I was tasked to cover this bakery that I realised it was a hidden gem hiding in plain sight.
Step closer, and you’ll find endless trays of perfectly identical mini buns lined up in neat rows, baked fresh from the oven every half hour or so, in over 30 flavours and mostly priced at $2.20 for six traditional mini buns.

We tried a handful of flavours on our visit, starting with their most popular Butter Sugar ($2.20). Each bun comes topped with a generous coating of sugar that adds a satisfying crunch, with warm, melted butter pooling inside the bread’s soft layers.
Be warned, though: it gets messy, with sugar spilling everywhere as you eat, though I’d say it’s part of the charm—it reminded me of old-school sugar doughnuts, just with more butter.
The Sweet Potato ($2.20) was the surprise of our visit. It’s not a flavour commonly found at local bakeries, and Bunnies does it well. The bright orange filling peeks through the white bread, which is marked with a green dot to help you distinguish it from the rest.
The bread itself tore apart easily and was stretchier than the Butter Sugar bun, but was still soft. Inside, each bun was generously stuffed with smashed sweet potato that was naturally sweet and smooth, almost like red bean paste in consistency, just silkier in comparison.
Other mini bun flavours on offer include Cheese, Otah, Spicy Shrimp, Yam, Peanut, Kaya, Black Sesame and more.
We also got the HK Chicken Char Siew ($2.60), which came as two hefty, regular-sized buns instead of six mini ones. On our visit, we were told it was a new flavour that had only launched a week prior.
Instead of the usual strips or chunks of pork, the filling here featured a smooth chicken paste that was lighter on the palate. As someone who never quite warmed up to the fatty bits in char siew, I found myself enjoying Bunnies’ version more than expected.
Another item worth trying is the Chicken Floss ($2.40), which came as two buns with a generous amount of chicken floss on top. While the bread was fluffy and the savoury filling complemented it well, the floss itself was more clumped together than the light, airy texture one expects from a good chicken floss, and bits of it would fall off as I ate.
It delivered on the flavour front, though, with a gentle sweetness from what tasted like a caramelised glaze.
Beyond the buns, Bunnies also carries tubs of Peanut Butter ($3), Margarine ($3), and Kaya ($3.20) to take home, alongside old-school treats such as Green Bean Cake ($3.60) and Kueh Lapis ($7.50), if you’re after something to bring back as a gift.
