Mr. Bready is run by two friends by the names of Rodney and Jason, who have been in this business for eight years now.
The mighty pair specialise in huat kueh, made a tad different from the traditional ones we’re familiar with. Their huat kueh looks similar to a muffin, and they are softer than the old-school steamed cakes in terms of texture. There’s a variety of flavours to choose from, with the Dark Chocolate Cranberry ($2) being a hot favourite. Their Rose Lychee ($2), which boasts a vibrant shade of pink, is also said to be popular among older patrons. For something more trendy, opt for their Matcha Cranberry ($1.80) instead.Â

Tucked away in Amoy Street Food Centre, Mad Roaster is helmed by Madeline, an ex-lawyer who started her business in the hopes of helping the refugees she’s worked closely with by providing them with job opportunities.
For those with a sweet tooth, there’s the Chocolate Babka ($2.30) and Cinnamon Brioche ($2.10). The latter can also be purchased in a loaf for $18! Those who dig savoury treats can opt for the OG Grilled Cheese ($6) or Kimchi Grilled Cheese ($6.30) instead, which comes with a side of chips. Even better, they offer sets here including the Traditional Set ($4.90), and Coffee & Brioche Set ($6.10). The former gives you kaya toast, eggs, and a cup of kopi or teh. Jia Mei Bakery is a hawker stall in Old Airport Road Food Centre that offers old-school baked goods at wallet-friendly prices.
If you’re dropping by in the morning, you get Egg Tart ($1.40), Coconut Tart ($1.40), and Sugar Doughnut ($1.30). Their Egg Tart will surely be to your liking if you prefer a crispy shell to a crumbly one. We particularly enjoyed their Sugar Doughnut thanks to the airy and fluffy texture, and the generous sugar coating was truly the icing on the cake. For those looking to get their buns, we recommend visiting from 12pm onwards as the aunty requires more time to prepare them.
