20 City Hall Food Gems Including $2++ Oysters, Handmade Pasta And More

City Hall food guide

City Hall MRT Station is right smack in the middle of the East-West Line and North-South Line, making it one of the more convenient places to meet up with friends. Peppered with malls, there is no shortage of City Hall food places to choose from. Look below for our round-up of food gems to check out when in the area.

1. Ureshii

Korean-Japanese restaurant Ureshii is nestled away at The Arts House, a convenient eight-minute walk from City Hall MRT Station. Naturally, the menu is heavily influenced by a blend of Korean and Japanese flavours, such as the Kurobuta Udon Kimchi Soup ($28++): a spicy-tangy kimchi soup with udon and pork meat. Alternatively, the Truffle Oil Tsuyu Pasta ($28++) is a great choice for those who enjoy oil-based pasta. This dish features fragrant truffle oil, aged tsuyu, and black tobiko.

2. Alice Boulangerie

Popular cafe Alice Boulangerie has a second branch at Raffles City, and what sets this outlet apart from the OG is the addition of Fine Crumbs Bakery. There are more than 15 buns available every day, and some of our favourites are the Black Sesame Peanut Mochi Bun ($4.80++), which nods to muah chee, Matcha Nama Bun ($6.50++), and Pistachio Cream Bun ($6.80++)

If you’re dining with friends or colleagues, we recommend the incredibly flavourful Char-Grilled Spatchcock Spring Chicken ($48++), featuring seasonal vegetables on the side. There’s also Hokkaido Scallop Crudo ($24++), the perfect blend of ponzu, green mango, and laksa leaf oil.

3. Broth & Beyond

Many think that CHIJMES only houses fancy restaurants, but that’s not true. Broth & Beyond is a value-for-money hotpot spot offering fresh, locally sourced ingredients from Yunnan. Their Flavour Discovery Set is priced at $29.90++ per person, which includes one broth flavour, a portion of meat, a veggie basket, a portion of rice or la mian, and access to the Market Table, which is essentially a huge condiment and dessert station. If you can’t decide which broth to get, consider the Black Truffle Assorted Mushroom Broth that’s simmered for eight hours using chicken fat and Yunnan mushrooms to achieve a rich, robust flavour.

Another CHIJMES gem is Daily Beer, a popular Korean fried chicken restaurant that’s perfect for your chimaek (chicken and beer) night. You can’t go wrong with the classic Angry Bird (from $28++), but if you want to take it up a notch, the Angry Bird Crunch (from $30++), seasoned with corn flakes and garlic, is a better choice. You must get their craft beers to pair with your chicken; there are 10 beer flavours on the menu, such as K-Ginseng Lager ($13++), Busan Hazelnut Porter ($15++), and the outlet-exclusive Chijmes Hazy IPA ($15++)

6. Dough

Dough is a bakery-cafe that’s been around for some time at CHIJMES, and after trying their food and drinks, it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. We first had the Hummus & Guacamole (price TBD), featuring a slice of garlic focaccia with dragonfruit hummus, guacamole, pistachio, honey, and a drizzle of olive oil. This tasted best with a glass of Iced White (price TBD), but if you’re not a fan of coffee, get their White Peach Sencha (price TBD) cold brew tea instead.
