Dai Tao Lala has affordable claypot lala in Johor BahruÂ
If you frequently cross the causeway, Dai Tao Lala may be a familiar name. Despite having opened just last year, Dai Tao Lala has become a hugely popular supper spot in Johor Bahru’s Mount Austin, serving affordable claypot lala in an aromatic seafood broth until 3am daily.Â
To enhance your meal, they also have over 60 sides for you to choose from, including Australian Beef Slices (RM20.90+/~S$5.70+), Tiger Prawns (RM22.90+/~S$6.52+), and even Grouper Fillet (RM26.80+/~S$7.60+).
The Dai Tao Signature Soup with Clams (RM38+/~S$10.82+) is a must-try. After placing your order, a staff member will start preparing the claypot in front of you, adding ingredients such as ginger, raw and fried garlic, and Shaoxing wine into it
The staff will then skillfully flambee the various ingredients, leading to a mesmerising display of flames. After that, a seafood broth will be added for boiling.
The result? A rich, aromatic seafood soup with juicy, plump clams. The clams are succulent and full of flavour, with a sweet and briny taste that goes great with the rich broth. The broth has a touch of ginger, but the earthy clams and fried garlic balance it out, making it delicious and savoury.Â
For sides, Baby Octopus (RM16.90+/~S$4.81+), Lobster Balls (RM10.90+/~S$3.10+), Thousand Layer Tribe (RM18.20+/~S$5.20+), as well as King Oyster Mushroom (RM8.90+/~S$2.55+) are available.
The fresh and juicy baby octopus stood out from the rest. Despite its size, the baby octopus fully absorbed the flavours from the other ingredients, pairing well with the robust broth.
In our recent visit to the restaurant, the total bill for two people amounted to RM102.20/~S$29.10, making it extremely affordable and value-for-money.Â
If you’re planning on visiting JB anytime soon, be sure to try this place! Although Dai Tao Lala only opens at 5pm, we recommend coming earlier as the eatery sees long queues way before they open, and they do not accept any reservations.Â
While you’re waiting for your turn, why not check out The Blue Door Coffee House for its unique drinks and trendy bakes? Otherwise, take a look at our Mount Austin food guide for more grubs around the area.Â
