Food At Kallang Wave Mall
A stone’s throw away from the nearby Singapore Sports Hub, Kallang Wave Mall is frequented by avid sportsmen and leisure shoppers alike. Its name comes from the iconic “Kallang Wave” celebration that jubilant Singapore football supporters performed in unison at the old National stadium. It’s truly a symbol of unity and fierce Singaporean pride.Â
Being an athlete, I train several times a week at the Singapore Sports Hub and often head to Kallang Wave Mall after a gruelling training session for my meals. You can say that I know my way around there pretty well. This iconic mall offers a myriad of food options that will satisfy the cravings of the young to old folks alike.
Restaurants at Kallang Wave MallÂ

The minced meat and different eggs mix well to give a wonderful flavour to the porridge. The Shrimp Fried Rice with Ebiko ($14.90++) comes lightly perfumed with a touch of wok hei and the store is quite generous with the shrimps as well.

12. Old Street Bak Kut Teh
Image credit: Old Street Bak Kut Teh’s Facebook page
For a piping hot bowl of bak kut teh, check out Old Street Bak Kut Teh. They are the pioneers of the Dry Bak Kut Teh ($7++ for small). The dish exudes a fragrant aroma, and the gravy is considerably thicker and more savoury as compared to the traditional soup bak kut teh. We recommend eating this dish with white rice, as its flavours might get too overwhelming if you eat it on its own.
Lovers of the Singapore version of bak kut teh should get the delightfully peppery Pork Ribs Soup ($6++ for small). The broth’s intense peppery taste is finished off with savoury and garlicky undertones. The tender pork comes off the bone easily, and the slight sweetness of the pork fat combines beautifully with the fragrant broth. This bowl is sure to satisfy any bak kut teh lover’s taste buds.Â

Having been a frequent patron of Yu Kee Specialities since I was growing up, their Duck Rice ($4.50) has a special place in my heart. Each piece of duck meat is juicy, with strong meaty flavour. 19. 13 Stages
Opened by celebrity Mark Lee and two of his close friends, 13 Stages serves seven different flavours of chicken rice. Since chicken breasts might be perceived as too dry and tough by some, the restaurant only serves steamed chicken thighs.Â
Their Samsui Chicken ($8.90++) is a popular favourite and features tender chicken leg that’s marinated with ginger and other aromatic spices.
Mala has been the rage for a while now, and it’s no surprise that their Mala Chicken ($8.90++) has gotten a lot of attention from diners. The Sichuan spices used in this fiery concoction kick in slowly, and linger on at the back of your throat.

The rich maple syrup is the icing on the cake, and adds a pleasant touch of sweetness to the fruit bowl.
