Ki-mochi: New AMK Cafe With Mochi Pancakes And Gelato At Nett Prices

Ki-mochi is a new under-HDB cafe in Ang Mo Kio 

Under-HDB cafes really do breathe new life into residential spaces. When we walked along the quiet corridor of provision shops in Ang Mo Kio, the muffled beat of Magnetic by ILLIT playing from Ki-mochi quickly filled the silence. Nearing the newly opened cafe, we saw that there was already a crowd of people our age eagerly awaiting their turn to try the cafe’s TikTok-viral mochi pancakes.

Their Signature Mochi Pancake ($4.50) featured two fluffy mochi pancakes drizzled with brown sugar syrup and sprinkled with kinako powder. Upon the first bite, this dessert somewhat reminded us of warabimochi. If the pancakes alone don’t fill you up, top up $8 for two scoops of gelato!

These mochi pancakes were unlike the usual pancakes made using eggs and flour. Instead, the latter ingredient was replaced with glutinous rice flour to create a soft and chewy texture. Even though these pancakes didn’t soak up the gelato well, we liked that they were slightly crispy on the outside and super chewy within. 

FYI, there are more than 10 gelato flavours for you to choose from, and each scoop is priced at $4.50. Out of the lot, we found some flavours to be interesting, including Muah Chee, Blue Pea Lemongrass, and Osmanthus Oolong. 

Ki-mochi is a 14-minute walk from Ang Mo Kio MRT Station. The cosy cafe can only seat around 15 people at once, so we recommend visiting in smaller groups.
