Chicken rice is so well-loved by Singaporeans and tourists alike, to the point where it’s often considered our national dish. If you’re looking to level up your chicken rice game, check out Maxwell Fusion Nasi Briyani Chicken Rice for a zhnged-up version, which pairs fragrant briyani rice with Hainanese-style chicken. Located in Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre, the stall is just a minute’s walk away from Admiralty MRT Station.

How Chicken Rice Became Singapore’s National Dish

A serving of Roasted Chicken with Briyani Rice will set you back $6.30. Here, you’ll get a full plate packed with tender Hainanese roast chicken and a whole egg, all served over a heap of fragrant yellow basmati rice. On the side, you also get fresh achar━a sweet and tangy pickle made of cucumber and carrot, adding a refreshing contrast to the savoury richness of the dish.

Instead of the usual clear soup that goes with chicken rice, you’ll get a bowl of thick, lemak curry with tau pok and potato chunks. We think this will be perfect for those who prefer stronger flavours!

If you prefer noodles, go for their Steamed Chicken Curry Noodles ($5/$6.50) instead. It comes with yellow noodles, succulent steamed chicken, chunks of potato, and plump, juicy tau pok pieces that soak up all that piquant broth.

Otherwise, you’ll also find the usual roasted and steamed chicken rice sets and platters here, should you want something more classic.
