Fried rice, specifically Din Tai Fung-esque variants, seems to be having a moment now. With popular chains such as King Of Fried Rice sprouting up across the island, this humble dish is probably one of the most popular food trends in 2021. Jumping on the bandwagon is Mr Egg Fried Rice, a new hawker stall tucked in a nondescript coffeeshop in Bishan Street 11.

Located in New Century Coffee Shop at Blk 151, this hawker stall specialises in egg fried rice topped with a variety of meats and seafood. Their standard, no-frills Fried Rice is priced at an affordable $4 a plate, so you can fill up without breaking the bank.

Born in Ipoh, Malaysia, head chef Eric Yam boasts 28 years of culinary experience in Asia and Australia. In Singapore, Chef Eric had previously worked at well-known hotels including Orchard Hotel Singapore and Conrad Centennial Hotel. He now fronts the kitchen at this humble hawker stall, and brings along his wok techniques and cooking culture from his years of experience.

Other must-try fried rice items on the menu are the popular Pork Chop ($6.50), and Chicken Chop ($6.50) renditions. To feel boujee on a dime, treat yourself to the Salmon Tobiko Egg Fried Rice ($9.50), which sees salmon chunks piled with a generous mountain of tobiko, atop a bed of cooked-to-order egg fried rice. There’s also the XO Scallop series (from $5.50) if you want something extra flavourful.
