Table of Contents
1. 5:59+ Cafe and Bistro

If cuddly pandas are right up your alley, don’t miss 5:59+ Cafe and Bistro’s opening, a popular panda-themed cafe from Chengdu. The brand has just made its international debut at 313@Somerset! You’ll find adorable drinks that come with panda gummies, as well as panda-shaped desserts, alongside a menu that blends Sichuan flavours with Western cuisine.

As mala fans, we had to order the Mala Hot Pot Pizza ($27++), which tasted exactly like what we Singaporeans are so familiar with. They even have the Old Chengdu Mala Coffee ($9.80++), which came with a cute panda gummy. The beverage was spiced generously with dried chilli, star anise and more. Don’t forget to try the Sichuan Pepper Steak ($39++) too, featuring tender Angus sirloin with spicy Sichuan pepper bits for a fiery kick.

Acai lovers don’t need to make the pilgrimage to Bangkok just to visit Soft Spot, as the viral acai soft serve store has made its first international debut here in Singapore! Located along Joo Chiat Road, Soft Spot serves up pure acai and Greek yoghurt soft serve with no added sugar or preservatives.

Their most popular creation is the Softspot For Love (from $9.80), featuring an indulgent drizzle of pistachio butter, strawberries, almond flakes, and the brand’s house-made granola base. Biscoff lovers should get the Softspot For Cookies (from $9.80), which includes a drizzle of Biscoff butter, Biscoff and Digestive crumbs and strawberries. 3. Wonderful Bapsang

ICYMI, popular Korean restaurant Wonderful Bapsang recently had a revamp; the Suntec City restaurant’s latest menu focuses on house-made tofu! Sundubu stew is the highlight here, served in 13 different ways.

We recommend the Seafood Tofu Stew Set ($23.90++), which comes with a rice pot and four side dishes on a tray. We enjoyed the combination of soft tofu chunks and finely ground tofu, as well as the robust and slightly spicy chilli pepper broth. If you’re dining with a friend, order the Tteok Galbi ($19.50++) to share. For the uninitiated, Tteok Galbi is a marinated minced beef dish that tastes similar to a hamburger steak!

Suntec City seems to be the hotspot for viral restaurant openings lately. The latest to join the buzz is The Soup Expert, a Shanghai-famous eatery known for its signature poultry and seafood dishes, as well as its double-boiled broths, served in cute “teapots”. FYI, their broths were dubbed the “Number One Soup in a Pot” in China.

The Black Garlic Beef Bone Soup ($12.90++) is a stand-out, blending caramelised black garlic with cordyceps, chicken, pork, and beef bones for a light and comforting broth. For mains, we recommend the Seafood Claypot Vermicelli ($13.90++), starring thin, QQ vermicelli, topped with a generous serving of shrimp, shredded cabbage, and creamy egg yolk. There’s also the Xian Mao Roast Chicken ($18.90++/$36.90++), which was fall-off-the-bone tender and infused with a fragrant sweet-savoury seasoning, made with a secret blend of over 10 spices.

5. Onori

If you’re working in the CBD, do yourself a favour and head to Onori at Far East Square for premium Japanese handrolls from just $3.50+! Each handroll can be bought individually, but for the best deal, we recommend getting them in sets of three, four, or five for $11.90+, $14.90+, and $17.90, respectively. This works out to be just $3.58+ per piece.

A popular item is the Hotate w Uni Paste ($7+), which pairs buttery scallops with uni paste, fresh jellyfish, shio kombu, fish roe, and crispy rice crackers. But our favourite flavour had to be the Snow Crab & Negitoro ($6.50), featuring large chunks of fatty tuna in a fermented marinade, topped with shredded snow crab, sake lees, and a refreshing yuzu marmalade.
