1. Golden Oyster Siew Mai with Black Truffles
Feng Shui Inn brings you on a gastronomic journey to Hong Kong. Cantonese food is known for its flavourful offerings, and this Golden Oyster Siew Mai with Black Truffles ($14.80++) is precisely that. It’s a hefty bite of pork and fresh prawns, topped with a decadent dried oyster specially sourced from Lau Fau Shan, an area in Hong Kong famous for its oysters. As with dried and rehydrated food, it’s a concentrated bite of briny, umami flavour, accompanied by black truffle sauce.

2. Purple Sweet Potato Soup with Osmanthus and Tang Yuan
A sweet treat on Feng Shui Inn’s festive menu is the Purple Sweet Potato Soup with Osmanthus and Tang Yuan ($12++). The mochi-mochi rice ball is filled with black sesame that oozes with each bite. Two generously sized tang yuan are served in each bowl, with cubes of pretty purple Japanese sweet potato. The soup is lightly perfumed with osmanthus, whose golden-yellow flowers dot the bowl, reminiscent of gold flakes.
This dessert is included in Feng Shui Inn’s Everlasting Happiness Set Menu ($128++ per person), served with the restaurant’s homemade Golden Ingots Nian Gao ($12++). These are made with gula melaka, which lends an earthy fragrance to these bites. 3. Dutch Hiramasa Yu Sheng
This CNY, have your very own atas “yusheng” at Ocean Restaurant. Their fancy rendition of this popular CNY must-have features Dutch Hiramasa sashimi on a bed of asparagus and house-pickled pomelo. The buttery, melt-in-your-mouth fish is topped with an appetising plum sauce and Arenkha caviar, a sustainable alternative to traditional caviar.

4. Golden Mandarin Orange
This gula melaka coconut parfait is only available with the lunch menu (from $68++) at Ocean Restaurant. It’s topped with a festive kumquat compote, with more of the fruit served candied on the side. Gula melaka lends a mellow sweetness to the creamy, coconut base that’s contrasted with the citrusy tang of the compote.

5. Syun Style Special Yu Sheng
For a CNY unlike the usual, head to Syun at RWS. The Japanese restaurant steps into the CNY game with their very own take on reunion dinner.
The Syun Style Special Yu Sheng ($118++) is a medley of greens and sprouts, topped with fried kataifi pastry, and served with a sesame-ponzu sauce on the side. The highlight of this yusheng, however, has got to be the A4 Kagoshima wagyu that takes the place of your regular salmon slices. The wagyu here is sous vide to a medium-rare doneness, then torched and sliced paper-thin.

6. Abalone Steak with Salmon Roe
Another highlight on the Syun menu this Chinese New Year is the Abalone Steak with Salmon Roe ($88++), a decadent treat of fresh Australian abalone, lightly poached and pan-seared to order. This is served in its own shell, with a kimizu sauce that is best described as a Japanese take on hollandaise. The succulent shellfish is topped with ikura that provides a savoury contrast to the natural sweetness of the abalone.

7. Big Fish
Perhaps you’re looking for something that’s not Asian, nor raw, this CNY. Look no further than Osia Steak & Seafood Grill, known for its Australian fare. Their take on yusheng doesn’t have any raw fish, instead presenting a whole fish, served in three different ways.
The Steamed in Parchment Paper New Zealand Wild Snapper ($210++) is a huge fish that’s good for at least four to share, and comes with herbed butter, lemon butter, or bearnaise sauce on the side. Special mention goes to the Watercress Salad and impossibly smooth Parmesan Potato Puree that accompanies every order off the Big Fish menu.
