Satin Satay, a nasi padang stall in Tiong Bahru Market has been selling “bad day meals” to the community ever since it opened in November last year.
Noticing that the community comprises many elderly folks who can’t afford a filling meal, husband and wife duo Zulkifli Halim and Shah Hida Anuar decided to offer cheap meals to everyone.
The Bad Day Menu features a $5 meal with rice, meat, and vegetables for just $1. On the other hand, the Lite meal ($0.50) will net you a noodle dish that’s worth $3.
The remainder of the meal is topped up by a community fund that’s on their Give.Asia page. The fund is currently at $11,776, almost double its goal of $5,000. With 299 givers, it’s obvious that many generous Singaporeans are keen to participate in this heartwarming programme.
The meals are not limited to just those who are unable to afford. The owners also welcome those who are having a bad day with a piping hot meal. All diners have to do is to ask at the store.

Aside from their bad day meals, they also serve a mean bowl of their house-special: Satin’s Mee Rebus Tulang. This exciting cross-cover combines rich and gelatinous braised tulang, or bone marrow, with creamy mee rebus for a flavourful treat.

They also offer various delivery packages for parties, with their house-made satay being a firm crowd favourite. Prices start from $25 per kg, and the satay also comes with peanut gravy.
