Scarlett Supermarket’s Largest Store Opens At Westgate With Live Seafood, Dim Sum And More

Scarlett Supermarket opens their biggest outlet at Westgate

After visiting the biggest Scarlett Supermarket at Westgate, I’m convinced this popular Chinese mart has everything you need—from live seafood to value-for-money groceries, just name what you want and they probably have it. My favourite part of their latest outlet in the West, though, has to be the dining hall, where you’ll find affordable dim sum, street snacks, and desserts.

The food hall serves up all kinds of delicious Chinese fare: mala, handmade dumplings, beef noodles, milk tea and more. Some vendor names here might ring a bell as they are relatively popular with several outlets across Singapore, including Tastea, Mao Master, and Cotti Coffee. The dining area isn’t the most spacious but it still seats more than 30 diners.

During our visit, the food hall was filled with a crowd of hungry diners working in the area. My colleague and I felt peckish as we visited during lunchtime, so we got a noodle dish, some soup dumplings, and a dessert.

The Signature Xiao Long Bao with Pork ($6.80) from Dough Magic came in a basket of five pieces. Though a tad small in size, each dumpling was packed with tender, soupy meat. If you prefer something more flavourful, we recommend getting the Spicy Pork Wonton ($6.80) instead.

Besides noodles and dim sum, Dough Magic offers a wide selection of popular Chinese street snacks. The Mini Crispy Pan-fried Pork Pau ($5 for 10) is a crowd favourite here as it’s served hot and crispy.

We also tried the popular Sichuan Cold Noodles ($4) from Jiang Ji. This dish was simple yet satisfying: cold, springy noodles were coated in a tangy-spicy sauce, and topped with sliced cucumbers. Don’t worry about the spice level; the heat was really mild with only a slight numbing sensation towards the end.

We rounded off our meal with the QQ Yam Set 1 ($3.90) from Tastea, which was served in a bowl packed with colourful popping boba, taro balls, coconut jelly, red bean, grass jelly, and pearls. FYI, you can also get a regular cup of Bubble Milk Tea here for $3.90!

There’s even a seafood corner, where you can get fresh, live seafood on the spot. We were amazed by the selection here—there’s even live King Crab ($168/kg) on sale!

Note that the newly opened Scarlett Supermarket is located in the second basement of Westgate. There’s another outlet in the first basement of the same shopping mall that mainly sells snacks, so don’t mix the two up!
