We’ve introduced sedap hawker food in Tampines, so it’s only right to bring attention to Tampines cafes too. Tampines may not come to mind when the word ‘cafe’ is mentioned, but there are food gems hidden throughout the neighbourhood. With most of them offering cafe fare at affordable prices, you now know where to bring your hipster mates to the next time you guys are in the area! With that said, here are the 12 best Tampines cafes you should definitely visit!
If you’re looking for pandan waffles and Asian-inspired ice cream flavours, look no further than Hundred Acre Creamery. If the name rings a bell, that’s because the cafe draws inspiration from Winnie The Pooh’s home, Hundred Acre Wood, which is reflected in its cosy ambience and decor. We highly recommend getting their chewy Coconut Pandan Waffle ($7) and pairing it with a scoop of Chrysanthemum Honey ($5.50) ice cream. For something more refreshing, order the Isaphan Sorbet ($4.50) instead for a burst of raspberry, rose, and lychee.

If glasshouse cafes are your jam, swing by Around Cafe, located in the compounds of a Tampines condominium complex. The cafe opens till 2am daily, making them a popular supper spot for Easties. A must-try is their Waffles With Two Rounds ($15), starring a satisfyingly thicc and cakey waffle topped with two gelato flavours of your choice. We recommend the Hazelnut Rocher gelato for something rich and nutty, and the popular Strawberry Cheesecake, a creamy and cheesy flavour with a fruity tang.

The Muslim-owned Craze Kitchen specialises in affordable Western food. All their items come at nett prices and boast huge portions. The Mala Beef Pasta ($25.50) is bursting with flavours, starring tender striploin beef slices, parsley, and linguine doused in Mala sauce.
One of the more unique items is the Chicken Run Waffle Burger ($14.90), which comes with a sizable portion of chicken cutlet and thick waffles. The sweet taste of the waffle buns goes well with the breaded patty. It also comes with a basket of thick fries, mushroom sauce, and a refreshing salad. If you prefer to have the chicken burger with regular buns, you can get it at $9 instead.

Tipsy Penguin is a great place to chill and visit on a Friday night. It’s roomy, relaxing, and has live bands performing in the evenings from Mondays to Saturdays. The menu has drinks, rich desserts, and fusion Western fare. One signature is the Gyudon Beef Bowl ($16++), featuring seared striploin served with sauteed truffle mushrooms, onsen egg, and garlic chips on a bed of Japanese rice. Tipsy Penguin serves mala dishes too. You can get the Mala Noodles With Seafood ($18++)—egg noodles tossed in a Mala sauce, served with wonton, prawns, and roasted char siew.
In terms of desserts, you can get their charred Tipsy’s Burnt Cheesecake ($12++) which comes with vanilla ice cream. This warm, crustless cake is smooth and milky on the inside, pairing well with the cold ice cream for a mouthful of sweet delight.
