This February 2025, Uncle Lee Confectionery launched Uncle Lee’s Old School Delights Vending Machine at Woodleigh Village Hawker Centre, which means you no longer have to fight long queues to get their cakes.
The machine operates with a touchscreen that allows you to choose among four cake flavours: kaya, peanut, chocolate, and rainbow chocolate. Each cake is six inches, which gives you about five to six slices.
To ensure the quality of their products, the cakes are baked fresh daily and stocked up at 11am every morning. If you don’t get your hands on one in the morning batch, fret not, as a restock happens at 5pm daily.
Like typical vending machines, a delivery tray moves upwards to retrieve the cake stored in the box before gently lowering it to the collection area.
While we were here, we had to try the crowd–favourite Kaya Pandan Cake ($22.10), which featured a fluffy pandan sponge nestled between layers of fragrant kaya pudding. We appreciated that it carried the right amount of sweetness and was melt-in-your-mouth soft.
Another steady seller is the Peanut Butter Sponge Cake ($15.80), a soft vanilla sponge cake covered in a generous amount of crushed peanuts. If you’re not a fan of cream, you’ll enjoy Uncle Lee’s cakes as you don’t get too much of the cream, so each mouthful isn’t too cloying.
You can’t go wrong with the Chocolate Butter Sponge Cake ($15.80), a classic option featuring chocolate sponge cake with vanilla cream and chocolate sprinkles. The chocolate flavour was not too sweet, making it the perfect treat for little ones.
BTW, all the cakes were wiped out within an hour, so we recommend you come when the cakes are being restocked to secure one before it runs out.
