The east is full of hidden food gems, and one of which is Xue Hua Fei Cold & Hot Drinks. This under-the-radar hawker stall in Bedok is most known for their $5 Watermelon Bowl AKA Da Xi Gua, which features half a watermelon filled with shaved ice, syrup, and fruits for a sweet and refreshing treat.

Each serving is prepared to order, and comes loaded with juicy watermelon balls, longan, canned pineapple and more. The $5 portion comfortably feeds two to three diners. You can also order the larger $8 portion if you’re sharing the dessert with more friends.
Xue Hua Fei Cold & Hot Drinks is helmed by Uncle Teo, a 70-odd-year-old hawker. He’s somewhat of an icon in the hawker centre, having run his dessert stall for over 40 years, since 1979.

Besides the XXL watermelon dessert, you can also get single-serve desserts in a cup or bowl, including Ice Watermelon ($2.50): shaved ice with rose syrup and coconut milk, topped with green jelly, corn, and sweet watermelon chunks. There’s also a lesser-seen Mango Durian Ice going at $3.

The stall is located in Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre, which is an easy four-minute walk from Bedok MRT Station.
Another must-try traditional dessert spot in Bedok is Ye Lai Xiang Cheng Tng, which has been around since 1939. Go for their old-school, 11-ingredient cheng tng that’s full of flavour!
