If you love handmade dumplings as much as we do, you have to bookmark this next spot. Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao is a popular hawker stall at Alexandra Village Food Centre with legit Shanghainese fare: xiao long bao (XLB), spicy wonton, beef noodles and more.

Fans flock to the stall for their signature Steamed Mini Buns ($5) AKA xiao long bao. Based on the photo above, which was taken two years ago, each serving used to come with seven XLB. Today, it seems like the portion size has been reduced, as recent photos show six pieces in a basket instead. Nonetheless, each piece still works out to around $0.80—not bad in this economy!

Google reviewers rave about the xiao long bao having a soft and tender skin that’s not too thin, yet sturdy enough to hold the meaty contents without breaking.

The Panfried Dumplings ($7.50) are also highly raved. These potstickers are said to have a delightfully crisp exterior with a juicy and well-seasoned pork centre.

You can also fill up on a variety of noodle dishes, including their signature Szechuan Spicy Noodles ($5) AKA dan dan mian, Beef Noodles ($5.50), and Zha Jiang Mian ($5).

Be prepared to queue even if you arrive during off-peak hours, as the stall is a hit among residents and office workers in the area. They’ve also been featured on the Michelin Guide before, adding to their popularity!
