There are three prawn mee stalls in this yearโ€™s Michelin Guide Singapore Bib Gourmand 2023 Award. In my opinion, the best of these is Zhi Wei Xian Zion Road Big Prawn Noodle, also known as Fresh Taste Prawn Noodle or more simply Zion Road Big Prawn Noodle. Located in Zion Riverside Food Centre, this stall seems to attract snaking queues whenever it is open.

There are many reasons why this stall is so acclaimed, but I’ll start with the most obvious one: the prawns. A bowl of Prawn Mee here starts from $8 and goes up to $25, but even the smallest portion here comes with an impressive amount of fresh and juicy prawns. Bowls from $12 and onwards use chunky, sizable prawns that are just amazing to eat.

The broth is another reason for the stallโ€™s success. Brimming with the umami of fresh prawns, this is a particularly rich, aromatic, and flavourful soup. You can choose to have your noodles in this soup, or have it dry, tossed in a piquant chilli sauce.

Like many prawn mee stalls, thereโ€™s an option to have pork ribs in your bowl as well. Given how excellent the prawns are here, though, I prefer to focus on just the prawns for that pure hei mee experience.
