6 Durian Stores To Satisfy Your Durian Cravings Before The Durian Season Ends

27th July 2018

One more month left to the end of durian season

Durian prices in Singapore are taking a dive, thanks to the hot weather in Malaysia. The oversupply has even caused some sellers to give out durians for free, while lowering the price of favourites such as Mao Shan Wang to $12 to $15 per kg, down from its usual price of $35 per kg. With so many options to choose from, here are six durian stores that offer the king of fruits, all around Singapore. And if you’re one of those who are always low on cash, these merchants also accept GrabPay, making paying a breeze.

1. Ah Seng Durian

Renowned for serving up durians at reasonable prices, Uncle Seng is arguably the most popular durian seller in Singapore. Give him a ‘Like’ on his Facebook page, which has over 41,000 followers.

Commonly frequented by those in the West, Durian Lingers is known for their consistent level of quality durians. Check out their meaty and creamy Mao Shan Wang, which looks good enough for a feast.

They also carry the Black Thorn durian, otherwise known as D200. Clinching first place in the annual Penang State Durian competition in 2011 and 2012, the Black Thorn durian is distinguished by a thick core with a rust-coloured “drain” or line running down the middle. More expensive than Mao Shan Wang, this hard-to-get durian is highly sought after for its rich and sweet taste that ends off with an intense bitter finish.

Coming from a mature tree, Black Gold durians have a much deeper taste than the usual Mao Shan Wang, and is also accompanied by a musky aroma. The older durian trees lend a stickier texture to the durians, resulting in a peanut butter-like texture that is creamy and gooey.
