Here’s a new late-night supper spot for North-Easties: 505 Niang Dou Foo at Hougang Green Shopping Mall is a 24/7 eatery serving a plethora of dishes, from yong tau foo to bak chor mee. Better yet, it’s air-conditioned, meaning you can enjoy your piping-hot bowl of yong tau foo without working up a sweat.

For just $6.30, you can choose six ingredients and a noodle or rice of your choice. While there’s your standard selection of carbohydrates, including yellow noodles and bee hoon, the chee cheong fun seems to be a fan favourite. For an additional $1.20, you get soft, pillowy chee cheong fun rolls that soak up all the flavours of the soup. Get their house-made yong tau foo too, which is said to be generously stuffed with fresh and bouncy fish paste.
You can opt for a dry base or go for their soup options: clear broth, laksa, or tom yum. Online reviews recommend the laksa soup, describing it as creamy and comforting with just the right amount of spice.

As the sister brand of 505 Sembawang Bak Chor Mee, it’s no surprise that their Ah Hua Crystal Jade Noodle ($7.50) is also highly raved about. One bowl comes with QQ green jade noodles tossed in a savoury, vinegary chilli sauce and topped with a generous serving of minced pork, a fried wonton, pork liver, mushrooms, and fishcakes. A spoonful of fried pork lard is also added for an extra crunch.

If you’re visiting in the morning, you can go for their all-day breakfast menu, which includes items such as Western Breakfast ($10.90): fluffy scrambled eggs, lightly toasted buns, grilled ham and sausage, and a side of garden salad. If you’re getting something to-go, try their Toast Set ($6), which features crispy toast with kaya butter or butter sugar, creamy soft-boiled eggs, and a drink.

To round off the meal, choose between their Grass Jelly With 2 Topping ($4.80) or Aiyu Jelly With 2 Topping ($4.80), both served on a bed of shaved ice and garnished with your choice of two toppings: longan, lychee, sea coconut, or nata de coco. For something more traditional, consider their Longan with Peach Gum ($5.80).
