In Jalan Kayu, a stall by the name of Hiang Soon Otar Food Catering is renowned for its excellent otah. In fact, they’re such a staple of the area that they’re often referred to as Jalan Kayu Otar—as if it were the pre-eminent otah stall in the area.
Hiang Soon Otar has been around for over 30 years now, and are a humble, family-run business that makes their otah entirely from scratch each day. You can expect long queues to form as the stall churns out batch after batch of its famous snack.

A single Fish Otah here will just set you back $0.80. Fans of the stall praise the otah here for its smoky aroma, smooth texture, and piquant flavour. If you’re not a fan of chilli, you can ask for the non-spicy version of this otah as well.

For an even more enjoyable texture, opt for the Fish Head Otah ($1.50 each) instead. Alternatively, if you’d like your otah chunkier and larger, get the ones wrapped in Banana Leaf ($1.50) instead.

If you’d like something hearty to go along with your otah, get the Nasi Lemak ($2). Fragrant coconut rice, and a decent portion at that, just goes super well with spicy otah—this is a combination you do not want to miss.
