12th November 2025

Where to find ice cream uncles in Singapore

There’s nothing quite like the joy of spotting an old-school ice cream uncle on a hot afternoon, serving up slabs of ice cream between crispy wafers or rainbow bread. While these nostalgic carts are getting harder to find, a few still roam our streets—here’s where you can track down 5 traditional ice cream uncles in Singapore for a sweet trip down memory lane.

BTW: Some of these carts don’t have brand names, so we’ve included their location for easy access. All entries listed below are not halal-certified, unless stated otherwise.

1. Uncle Chieng Traditional & Wafer Ice Cream

Uncle Chieng is one of the few ice cream carts in Singapore with an actual Google listing. Located in front of Takashimaya Shopping Centre along Orchard Road, the cart is popular among locals and tourists alike. Do note that they open from 1pm onwards, and close around 10pm.

Despite its central location, Uncle Chieng’s ice cream is affordably priced at $1.50—no matter which flavour or option you go for. We went for the mixed scoops—Chocolate, Ata Seed, Corn, and Peanut—paired with rainbow bread. You’ll also find a wide range of wafer ice cream flavours, including Yam and Durian.

Address: 391 Orchard Road, Singapore 238801

Right outside Boon Keng MRT Station Exit B, near the POSB ATM, you’ll find an ice cream uncle selling $1.50 ice cream with wafer or rainbow bread. We don’t have his exact opening hours, but we know he usually sets up his cart around lunchtime on most weekdays—we visited on a Wednesday afternoon!

Choose from classic flavours such as Durian, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Raspberry Ripple. There’s also a $1.80 option that features a slice of rainbow bread sandwiching three scoops of ice cream.

Opening hours: TBD

3. The Bencoolen (near Bugis Street)

For traditional ice cream in the Bugis area, head to The Bencoolen along Albert Street. There’s an ice cream uncle stationed outside the mall, selling $1.50 ice cream served with your choice of wafer or bread.

Expect classic flavours including Choc Chip, Ripple, Corn, and Peppermint here. My personal favourite is Mocha Chip, where coffee-flavoured ice cream is studded with mini chocolate chips. There are cup and cone options here, too!

Address: The Bencoolen, 180 Bencoolen Street, Singapore 189646 (outside the mall)
Opening hours: TBD
