If you can’t say no to an affordable buffet, then check this out. Petite Menu, a restaurant at Aqueen Prestige Hotel Lavender, currently has a $10 Lunch Buffet on Mondays and Fridays only, from 12 to 2pm! And yes, you’re paying a flat 10 bucks to gain access to an all-you-can-eat spread, with no GST or service charge.

At this price point, it’s no surprise that Petite Menu draws long queues during buffet hours. A few viral videos of the buffet have also been making the rounds online, adding to the crowds.

We waited more than half an hour to get in, so if you’d rather skip the queue, it’s best to call ahead and reserve a table.

Don’t expect luxurious options here—the fare is more akin to a canteen spread, though to Petite Menu’s credit, most of the options taste pretty decent. The food varies by the day, but here’s what we tried during our visit.

We really liked the Sweet and Sour Fish, which had a nice crispy exterior and a soft, flaky interior. The tangy sauce surprised us, as it was surprisingly well-balanced yet addictive at the same time.

Then there was the Baked Chicken, which went well with the robust chicken rice Chilli Sauce. Not the most mind-blowing poultry dish out there, but for $10 and its unlimited quantities, we can’t complain much.

And yes, if there’s chicken rice chilli, there’s going to be some actual Chicken Rice. It was a little too clumpy and moist for our liking, but it fared better in the flavour department.

There was also Kway Teow, Boiled Egg with Soy Sauce, Samosa, and Mixed Vegetables, which made for quite a wholesome meal overall.

But there were some clear misses. The Crabmeat Egg Soup was a clear afterthought, tasting much like plain water infused with crabmeat. The ice cream was also rather uninteresting, though again, you get what you pay for.

Still, at that low price point, Petite Menu is a great deal for those looking for a cheap buffet—though you might want to wait for the hype to die down before visiting, so the queues are more manageable.
