Combo 105 has $8.80 nasi campur “buffet” in Canberra
If you’re looking for a “buffet” that won’t break the bank, check out the Nasi Campur Buffet ($8.80) by Combo 105. We use quotation marks because, while the Canberra eatery lets you pile on as many dishes as you want, refills aren’t allowed. You’re limited to what you can fit on your plate, but if you load it up, it should still satisfy big eaters unless your name is Zermatt Neo.
Here’s how it works. First, head to the cashier and pay for the buffet. You’ll be handed a generous serving of rice, which you’re meant to pair with a decent spread of Malay dishes, all laid out buffet-style.
Pick whatever you want—we saw chicken rendang, chicken curry, kangkong, sunny-side-up eggs, tempeh, fish fillet and more. While you’re likely not going to get the food piping hot, you have total control over what and how much food you want, hence the “buffet” title.
The fried chicken seems the most popular item here, and for good reason. It’s sizeable, crispy, and juicy, exactly what you’d want from good fried chicken. Other diners have also managed to enjoy fried fish here, but it wasn’t available during our visit.
So, is the Nasi Campur Buffet worth it? Honestly, it really depends. If you’re a big eater, you’re going to get good returns on that $8.80 price. If you’re going in with expectations of quality, you may find that not every buffet item stands out, and your enjoyment depends on what’s available at the time of your visit. Make of that what you will!
