FLAKE is a one-year-old local bakery that specialises in cronuts, AKA croissant doughnuts that are absolutely IG-worthy. They’ve recently launched six savoury croissant doughnuts, so those who don’t have that big of a sweet tooth can rejoice!

Created by famous French-American pastry chef Dominique Ansel, the cronut—as its name suggests—is a cross between a doughnut and a croissant. It’s made from special laminated pastry dough, with buttery layers resembling those of a croissant. Fried to golden-brown perfection, each pastry is then piped with a flavoured cream filling.

FLAKE’s latest drop is the Box of Savoury ($35): six trendy flavours of Tom Yum, Laksa, Mala, Nasi Lemak, Salted Egg, and Mentaiko. Perfect as a gift for someone special or a treat to yourself, these handmade treats are freshly fried and left to cool. The cream is piped by hand, into exactly four holes for an ideal dough-to-filling ratio.

We’re most intrigued by the Nasi Lemak flavour, which features a creamy coconut and sambal buttercream, topped with roasted peanuts and ikan bilis. Mala fans should also try their Mala rendition, comprising a mala-spiked buttercream, topped with enoki and Sichuan peppercorn.

Apart from their latest launch of savoury croissant doughnuts, the online bakery is also popular for their sweet options. Past flavours include Apple Pie, Lemon Meringue, and the local-inspired Kaya Butter. For now, the available flavours change from time to time, so you can follow their Instagram page for updates on new releases.
