Egg tarts are one of my go-to snacks for any hour of the day. That’s why I was stoked to stumble upon Flash Bakes, a home-based bakery selling freshly baked egg tarts, orh nee tarts and many more at affordable prices. Here’s more good news: the family-run business has set up shop at Baker X, a baking studio and cafe in Orchard Central that showcases small home-based bakers across the island. You can shop their tarts from now till 18 May 2023!

Only at this pop-up, you can get their Original Egg Tart at just $1 a pop—slightly cheaper than their regular price of $2.60 for two on their website. Their tarts are said to have a thin crust so you can more of that jiggly custard filling. The Pandan Egg Tart goes at $1.30 each.

Their Lemon Meringue Tart ($3.20) is another hot favourite; this sweet treat comprises a buttery crust with a tangy lemon curd centre, topped with Italian merignue that’s lightly torched for a deeper flavour.

Don’t forget to try their Orh Nee Tart ($1.80), too. Inspired by the traditional Teochew yam paste dessert, these buttery tarts feature a house-made orh nee paste topped with fresh gingko nuts. The filling is creamy and not too sweet.

Those who love pandan and coconut can try their Ondeh Ondeh Tarts ($10 for four pieces), which you can pre-order on their website and collect during their Baker X pop-up. Each tart is made of a pandan-infused shell, packed with a sweet gula melaka and coconut middle, and finished with toasted coconut flakes.

After the pop-up, you can find Flash Bakes’ range of tarts online at their website. Delivery costs $8 per location.
