For the uninitiated, Giraffa is a popular kiosk in Kamakura, Japan. The brand is known for their deep-fried cheese curry buns, said to be crispy on the outside with a stretchy, cheesy curry middle.

Fun fact: Giraffa translates to giraffe in Italian. According to their website, the brand chose this name in hopes that their curry bread would be something customers “eagerly wait for with bated necks, just like a giraffe with a long neck”.

Their famous Giraffa Curry Bread costs $5.60 at this new Singapore outpost. In Japan, it goes for 450¥, or S$3.90.

You get a milk bun that’s lightly breaded and deep-fried till crispy on the outside, generously loaded with a cheese and meat curry mix. The umami-packed curry, which comes with bits of pork and beef, is made with a whopping total of 30 spices, including cumin and turmeric. According to Giraffa’s website, the curry is also prepared with honey, apples, tomatoes, and wine.
